Sounds like the kinda thing a 'fam' would say when they realise that their idol's latest album is a sub-par set of insipid songs by an artist past their prime.

Actually, his post sounds very reasoned and logical...by giving out the CD for "free" with concert tickets--when in reality the cost/profit from the CD is figured into the price of a ticket--Prince is guaranteeing that his latest CD will "sell" at least 400,000 copies just from concert goers alone.

That is, he'll profit monetarily from this CD as if it was sold in stores and went Gold (500,000 copies sold)...I really doubt Prince cares if he gets the money from the CD by selling it in stores or thru concert goers. The only thing he'll be missing is bragging rights by being able to pointing at the Billboard chart...just the fact that Prince had the CD finished and the tour planned out before finding a label shows that record store sales were NOT the primary force behind either the tour or giving away the CD for "free"...publicity and increasing music club membership most likely were.

But even if it does go gold, with 500,000 units moved, I don't think he will get credit for a Gold Album by the RIAA.

Now, the fact that I don't much care for Prince's post-1995 releases, doesn't really qualify me for someone who "hates" Prince, or who should not come to this website (skywalker, I don't reference you here, but the many 'fans' who posts here, who have expressed that anyone who doesn't consider Prince's latest works as stellar compositions as "haters").

Romance, believe it or not I actually feel the same way you do about Prince's music. 1986 was the creative peak and everything post Lovesexy is sub-par. But whatever anyone thinks or however anyone feels about Prince's current music, isn't it much easier to take it with a grain of salt and stick to your own musical convictions without resorting to labeling someone a "fam" if they are equally enthusiastic about Musicology as you were with Parade? When you resort to that, then the whole Chandler schtick could just as well apply to you: "Could YOUR lines be any more older?" Prince has been past his prime since Diamonds and Pearls but you're still here on a daily basis ready to give insight to those so-called "sub-par set of insipid songs" and any new ones he might release. I'm not saying your opinions are wrong but it's the manner which you present them that makes you appear like a victim of APFS. Live and let live.

To each their own i guess. Lovesexy doesn't do it 4 me as TGE and TRC do. Those are his storkes of genius as far as I am concerned. To each their own. On the whole tho, I enjoy just almost everything he does, minus Jughead:)

Well Romance1600 i guess i'm not they only that tires of your shtick. Your the person that always has a cynical comment. If u want to critique individual songs with the some precise points to make that's cool, but the overriding negativeness of your posts says a lot about your personality. What about pointing out at every turn that prince is beyond his prime (which is questionable) and that whatever the latest project is doesn't match up to the holy trinity of prince releases gets u so excited? I mean what's the point? Do u spend your time telling your mother or lover how much cuter, smarter, funnier they were 20 yrs ago? Anybody with any maturity realizes things change. Some things are lost while others are gained.

There are things on the last 3 cds that Prince could have never done in his youth. He understands the craft of making music now, where in his youth it was just energy and newness. The change was inevitiable. Why harp on that fact. There is nothing on "repeat" about N.E.W.S or TRC. On the new CD of course there are similarities between this work and past work. Unless Prince gets a brain transplant rest assured there will always be similarities. U really need a new muse in your life so u could spare us the snide comments.

Most musicians past their prime would love to have the kind of success Prince is having now.

How are Romance's posts "overridingly negative"? Is it just because his opinion on Prince's most recent output isn't as flattering as your's? That's not being negative, per se, but just his opinion, just like you have yours. Not to speak for him, but I reckon he's on this site because though the Prince music that touches him the most is almost at least 15 years old, it STILL touches him. And maybe there's some kind of hope that he'll get somewhere near that creative peak again.

Just like in a long relationship where the bad times outway the good and one lover says they wish for things to feel fresh and new like it was in the beginning (to get that ol' spark back), I'm sure Romance (and many other fans alike) speak of the same thing when it comes to their love affair with Prince's music. Look at it like that!

Maybe I just like to stir shit wink

I gave Musicology a good look over - my review was posted here, and even though some people didn't agree with it, they commented on the fact that I gave a fair appraisal - I do believe it was one of the most in-depth reviews posted here.

I just can't believe (literally, I don't believe them) when people say Musicology is "his best work since Sign O' The Times.

If that is one's opinion, fine, but really, by your statements, Prince is treading water - I'm just spelling it out a little more clearly.

People can bullshit themselves into oblivion about how they are "diggin' these fresh new joints" - but I don't believe them when they say that this music is the best Prince is capable of, even now.

Funny how, whenever a so called "negative" comment is made there are a plethora of a) personal attacks on the person who made the comment, and b) a string of threads about how Musicology is the best thing since multiple orgasms.

Why are you so arrogant to think that your appraisal of his work is the be all an end all of opinions. To say that some who likes the music, can't possibly, is very arrogant of you. I tell you what, post your music here so we can evaluate it. If it blows Prince's music out, we'll do a website for you.
