I like it though it's better live. Call My Name is the standout track to me batting eyes

Can someone explain 2 me why everyone is losing they're minds over Call My Name?

B/c it's soulful, sweet, romantic, great melody... it's adorable that such a small moment in time prompted a whole song. I just dig it man... PANTY CHECK!! batting eyes

I won't even try to like it until you admit that N.E.R.D's Fly or Die is one of the best albums you've heard this year. hmph!

BTW, I'm still working on "When He Goes Away"

I admit that easily. NERD is super and the new album is at least as good as In searc of..

And LIFE O A PARTY is definately one of my favs on MUSICOLOGY!!!

I like it. Lyrics are kinda bland is the worst I can say about it. Speaking of NERD, the beat on LotP has that "banging on the bleachers" sound that the Neptunes do, dontcha think?

Kind of off-topic, but I'm just watching the new Alicia Keys video, "If I Ain't Got You." It's a really nice song, more like early Whitney than P, but still, I find it kind of ironic that she's kind of P's biggest competition right now. His influence is clear in every track, but she cleans it up for radio, just enough to make it a smash. Smart woman, her.

Nope. This track is poor, and for whoever said it, no booming bass is going to make it any good.

There are a couple of new Prince classics on this disc, in that they really stand up to a lot of his earlier work and feel like genuine keepers.

Call My Name.

Dear Mr. Man.

Aside from these there are nice tracks like On The Couch and Reflection and some other quite good songs that are worth having and that make me glad to have the album.

Life... is a stinker.

The definitive review, in a few lines. pray

This song (studio version) definitely has to be played on a good system with clean bass to be appreciated. Whomever said room-shaker was correct. Love that bass.. without it the song does sound a bit hollow Oh...and the funky carribean breakdown is the spit. Its adds the party flavor that the song's title suggests. I can see the dancehall getting bucked on that. Not in love with the female vocals, but they'll do. Percussion freaks will love this song, there are so many little nuances thats its interesting trying to hear them all.

Something about this song keeps screaming "funky HBCU Halftime Show" to me. I just keep seeing 200 funky musicians workin it out on the field to this song. That would be one smokin live version.....

I think it's okay but the worst song on the album. It is WAY better live when P sings it over the Hot Pants music.

No its not the worst song on there, I'm lovin it over here. Really there aint a bad song on it. I still thin k that Musicology is the best on there.

The song is too black for many of this forumn. I am discovering that people are not into his dance stuff (recent) Life O the Party is an example of that. I will say this that while "Life" is not the weakest link on the record it is not my favorite. The keyboards saved it for me. Musicology is a very very strong song so people are strait trippin on that. Two songs on The Chocolate Invasion that are smokin tracks Judas Smile and Sexme/Sexmenot have been totally dissed in some other posts. Those tunes are the kinds of songs that are played in major clubs like in NY & DC and those songs are that strong. P does make an attempt to rap (I hate when he does it because far more often than not he doesn't do it well) which takes away from both but they are still strong

You've been bamboosoled, hoodwinked, took!!!

I'm not sure i'm ready to pick a "worst" on this album just yet but i do know when i come to that conclusion Life O'the Party will not be it. I am diggin this and like the post said earlier...put it on a system that can handle the bass and make sure the walls can to because it definately has a step on your neck bass line.
That said, one of my favorite tracks on SOTT is "it's gonna be a beautiful night" however if that had been released as a studio cut instead of the live version it would have gotten the same mixed reviews LOTP is. Neither is a super strong cut on it's own but live they are two of the funnest tracks he's ever done. I think if LOTP had been included on this album towards the end and as a live version from one of his recent HOB shows everyone would be loving this cut.
Like Prince said the album is meant to be a companion for the concerts so it wouldn't have hurt to show off LOTP and maybe another jam (On The Couch wouldn't have been bad based on last nights performance) as live tracks.

oh yeah...that said..i was thinking that wouldn't it be sweet if the Sony version (since it's supposed to show off some of the old hits with a new style) coming out April 20th included maybe 4 or 5 live cuts from the Staples show? Maybe even go with a live bonus section after Reflection laying out the first 5 cuts of the concert...Musicology, Le'ts Go Crazy, Doves, die 4 U and Baby i'm a star. give the listeners picking up the cd for the first time a chance to see what the live shows have in store for them so they go out and get tickets if they haven't already (and if any are left in their town) and reward those of us who have already seen the show by giving us a little something to reminice on what a great time we had. I'll even dream a little greedy and say you could have an enhanced CD that shows the same live cuts on CDROM. Nice...i'd pay money for an album i already have 4 times over with a bonus like that.

Or added edited versions (minus Princes raps) of Judas Smile and Sexme/Sexmenot, VaVoom which sounds incredible on my stereo, Underneath the Cream & Super Cute all from The Chocolate Invasion

Personally the milky bland "A Million Days" is the worst although I noticed that particular cut appears to be very popular on this site. I suggest people check out Incubus to see how that type of record shouldbe done. Since Emancipation Prince has been trying it and hasn't got it right yet. Pimp & Curcumstance can go as well

i agree that this is a track that would be played on radio and be quite successful as a single. it's certainly not my favorite track on the album, but in terms of mass appeal, it would be a nice choice for a single (and could have a very nice video, judging from the lyrics).
