I've been sooo very lucky (and some funny lyrics)

funniest lyrics of the night, part of the Prince-teaches-school theme, was (paraphrased, but very close anyway) - We don't believe in lip-syncing/this is real music you hear/with real musicians playing it

Oh, and he mentions elsewhere that he's never had a nose-job. He sure was in an upbeat and happy frame of mind.

I was at one of the closed circuit Regal cinema showings and it brought that small house to its feet.

As to a mini-review: First let me say that I recently had a stroke of considerable luck come my way. Just this Feb. I downloaded and watched the Purple Rain movie I hadn't seen in years. While I always liked the music very much I never really followed any of Prince's other music. So I was unaware of his immeasurable talent. Now with the advent of the internet, I decided to casually browse the web and read some of his bio's after watching Purple Rain. The first real stoke of luck was finding this website, then the movie "Sign O the Times" which I've watched probably 30-40 times now, and some of his famous after-show material. I was blown away by his talent. I had no idea he was other than just a good singer. Over the past two months I've read most of this website and listened to everything I could find. I've learned of his pros and the warts too. However, I just keep getting surprised. Like when I discovered "The Truth" album. The biggest part of the luck I mentioned was in discovering Prince just as he was launching this tour, getting inducted into the RRHOF, performing on the Grammys, and just generally re-appearing in the musical world spotlight. Such a coincidence that I looked for Purple Rain just this year.

I should say that there is still so much I don't catch right off. Like the David Coleman tribute. I didn't understand what that was all about at first.

So I guess I'm really not the one to depend on for the best description of the show, but I'll say it anyway, just "W-O-W". What a show.

He did a lot of his older music and while "some" of it probably wasn't as racy as it originally was (I didn't hear any cursing) he certainly kept the Bible thumping to a minimum, and he sure sang some very sexual-themed/sensual lyrics. In plain terms I believe any old Prince fan would be most gratified with the show I saw tonight.

Heheh - I had read of the fact that Prince had done some shows in the past that were not all that great. So I originally had planned to see the closed-circuit viewing and if it was good, then get some tickets to the live show later in April. Sure is a good thing they added another show in Atlanta in August. Or I wouldn't be going since the first show was sold out before I even looked for tickets. Just another bit of my education on how really good Prince is.

The show itself starts with a mix of the album and some of his most memorable songs. Sorry I can't name them all. I know the music pretty much but not all the names. He did quite a bit of his older stuff though.

After about an hour and a half maybe, the lights go out and an extended break occurs where the lights go out and they clean the stage off during the break. When the lights come back up it's just Prince with an acoustic guitar. He does a complete set that sounded really great. He did a rendition of "Forever in my life" during this set.

And finally he does the obligatory Purple Rain. All in all about 2.5 hours of really great music.

Oh and one final thought, I have to say Musicology sounds so much better live than on the video.

My ONLY concern is that I've wondered how he can stay so upbeat doing a show almost every night for several months. I Guess that's what being a professional is all about.

I think he mentions never having fucked with his nose in that travesty "Life o the Party", along with someother stuff. I'd check but the song is so poor the idea of listening to it right now makes me weep.

I just don't get it. The more I listen to the album the better it is as a whole. Why is this one track so shite?

Anyway, sounds like you had a cool time - thanks for the review. Acoustic Forever in my life...drooling
