Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Though sometimes I do wonder if some comments are really opinions or just people who enjoy getting under other people's skin. On that note, I also find it strange for those who always say they love everything he does. Without a doubt I am a bona fide Prince lover/fam, whatever, and I can't say I have loved everything he has done. Beyond a doubt he is a musical genius, and he has accomplished what he has set out to do "teach an intergrated nation how sing", not many can say that. Does it really matter that he makes it again to the top 20 on the Billboard charts, (especially given the crap that has been on it so far, and you all know it's been a lot of crap/sampling/unoriginal stuff) oh it would be nice, and I sure he would love it, but after tonights crowd, packed, it is obvious where he stands in the heart of his fans. What does he really have to prove to anyone, his crown is intact, and he has the freedom to experiment as he choses, personally I am enjoying the ride, some of it I love and some...well. Like a roller coaster, I doubt I really have to state the obvious. Crap on his parade if you must but it looks like to me he ain't in desparate need of your support anyway. | |

I've noticed that there seems to almost be a war going between the "naysayers" (who have already made up their minds that whatever Prince puts out will suck) and the "asskissers" (those who've already decided that whatever Prince puts out will be the most brilliant thing in recording history).
Here's an idea: why not listen to a new recording a few times, and really pay attention to the music and lyrics? Evaluate a work on its own merits, and not on your preconceived notions.

I think that our greatest artists don't always please us. They're ultimately gonna follow their own muse, whatever that voice is telling them( that is, the artists that are allowed any kind of creatve leeway ). Sometimes that results in stuff that makes us cringe, sometimes it results in stuff that makes us nod our heads and dance-- but there's never complete agreement on what work is good and what isn't ['cept-newpowersoul and goldnigga--ha!].
