Prince being raunchy? Questions raised by the 3/29 concert.

One thing that struck me the most about Prince during the LA show was that, while he changed several risque lyrics to "I feel 4 U" and "DMSR", he got quite dirty minded while doing his acoustic set with "On the Couch". Another rude boy moment was the "I wish we all were nude" chant from "Controversy". So how does Prince decide what to filter and what not to? He definitley is not as prudish as some would have believe. Also, I have never seen him be less preachy in a concert. The Purple Rain and Lovesexy tours had much more religious/spiritual overtones and statements. Thoughts?

I agree. I think he's shying away from anything that is "cursing", and he won't sing about sex in too graphic a manner, but he still has his sexy side. This performance had about 1000 times more of an impact, because the sexuality was subtle, and didn't color every aspect of his performance. I like the balance he has now actually. Its still a Princely brand of sexuality, but its got a more mature angle now. It truly sets him apart, since every other artist alive is singing about sex non-stop these days. He's refined it, and I think its cool. His attitude towards sex seems healthy, and in tune with his spirituality.

some of the same thoughts went through my head. his lyrics for many songs are still highly suggestive. i'm glad to see that he keeps the underlying theme to his songs still. i get the feeling that the lack of cursing has more to do with trying not to do it live due to the younger crowds. which is nice i think. but at the same time...i paid my damned dues. i had to wait til i was 18 for most concerts unsupervised. why not make these little crumb snatchers wait like most of us did? i can totally respect someone's choice not to curse. but anyone that looks down on those that do can eat a nice ass cream sandwhich.

clapping Well said! I totally agree. Now that Britney is masturbating in a clear tub, wearing a clear body-stocking, rolleyes it's much more effective to see someone seemingly loose control for a moment "in a celibate rage" than run around acting horny all the time.

I also think Prince's sexuality in concert has more of impact now because over the past several years, he has conciously suppressed the extreme sexuality that he once displayed. Now, when he displays a glimpse of it, we (the fans) tend to amplify what we see and hear. Prince is expected to "scream his sexuality", so what does he do? he whispers it... totally brilliant move.
