Some more details about SONY Alright I just some more info today on the SONY deal and the difference between the Give-away CD and the official one. The word is that SONY is doing this as a ONE-off type thing and PRINCE is testing the waters to see what SONY has to offer in terms of Promotion. SONY also has gone to retailers and told them straight up that HE will be giving the CD away at every show but the Give away one will NOT have any artwork or books they will just be a CD in a slip carboard case and that PRINCE is giving some exclusives just to the SONY retail release, possibly Extra tracks, lyrics, DVD???. Sony has said that PRINCE wants everyone to have this CD, they also agree that giving it away still wont hurt retail sales because of his loyal fanbase, SONY plans on shipping 350,000 copies of this CD and PRINCE has in turn promised a MASSIVE tour that will go all over the US at least once possibly twice. Be prepared to see this CD everywhere and seeing GIANT displays in Record Stores everywhere, the LABEL is 100% behind this and wants it to work. So hurry and get your tickets, so far I have tickets to 11 shows. Geez, that sounds hella cool. This might work out for both Prince and Sony. And WTF about those ELEVEN shows????, OMG .. this is one of those times I actually wish I lived in the States. Have some fun for me too 'k?  | |

Have fun...if I could afford it..I'd attend as many shows as possible....I will be seeing him twice in May when he hits LA! I just spoke with my friend at Sony and pretty much said the same thing you posted...they are making this their #1 priority. Columbia are pros at promoting 'seasoned' artists....just look at their roster... -Bob Dylan -Miles Davis -Barbra Striesand -Billy Joel -Bruce Springsteen -Neil Diamond -Johnny Cash (most of his catalog) -Willie Nelson (most of his catalog) I'm sure MUSICOLOGY will go at least Gold pretty quickly....I'm just so excited to see a new Prince album...officially being promoted and with packaging that wont make me gag! Every minute of last night is on my face today.... | |
