"No One Understands Your Music, But Yourself" (This includes the single "Musicology")

I'm sure to get some haters on this one, but again, I'm protected by the 5th Amendment and can state what I feel.

Well, here you go...

I've heard the Musicology single and was quite disappointed. It's just so Old, Old, School and I doubt it that the younger audience will get it. I'm sure Prince is doing his own thing, but it's not appealing to a lot of people. Although some people think he could shit on a rag and they'd still buy it if they thought it was from Prince himself. He still doesn't have the following of die hard fans like he used to.

He's long left his groovier roots, I think when he left Warner Bros. actually, but I wish he would return to the funk he used to make and show these younguns' how it's done.

Okay, let the comment bashing begin, remember this is only an opinion.

Peace all!
Baby, Baby, Baby...what's it going 2 b?

OH MY GOD I HATE YOU AND YOU MUST BE BASHED!!!!

Just kidding.

I disagree with you, but not passionately so. I don't think Musicology is a great song, but it's a better single than The Greatest Romance Ever Sold was BY FAR, and I gotta be honest - while I'm not crazy about it, it's catchy. The more I hear it, the more it sticks in my head.

I'm not gonna get dressed for battle with ya over a song I'm not that hot about, but hey - methinks ya protest just a smidge too much.

First thing you really need to do is reread the Constitution. 5th amendment has little to do with this (Try the 1st). http://www.findlaw.com/ca...stitution/

Second, like others have said here the tune is catchy. I also wasn't feeling this one much at first but that groove is, imo, undeniably catchy. Caught myself humming it and thought "maybe there is something there"

Thirdly - this is SO NOT a free speech forum. The threads and posts are not guaranteed by right to stay. We as Mods can edit, snip, lock or even hide those we feel merit it. No court, no jury, no explanation. Not that we do so with glee, just a fact...

But opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. And you're opinion is welcome here at P.org, - it's just not a God-given right.

Actually, it's a "Ben-given right"... so same difference. confused

What i dont understand is why u find it so important that young kids get into Prince or he gets the following he had in the eighties? I couldnt care less...in fact i would be happy if Prince came to play in my country and only 2000 peop show up in a small theatre and have some fun...I kinda respect P. for doin his own thing again. And btw Old School is complementing a song...not bashing it smile

Musicology isn't a better song than TGRES, not at all, but you might be right about it being a better lead-off single.

TGRES is a VERY original song, in sound and in lyrics. It's one of the standout tracks on Rave.

I agree about Musicology, that there should've been a break - probably a kick ass drum solo followed by a slow, Santana-esque guitar segment.

It's a trip back. The way it was (for him) and the way it will never be.
Me myself was that little kid that bought a single. I was wild with enthousiasm when you had that new single. It took you a few weeks of pocketmoney to get it.
Sit down and listen do it. Dance to it. Sing to it! Woa!.
That ain't anymore. Now you download it and see the clip for free.
It's different.

Who said the single "Musicology" who be the first single to be released from the album? Afterall, all of you junkies raving about "The Greatest Romance That's Ever Been Sold" came from an album titled "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" Why wasn't that the first single?? huh??? IMO, the purple one had something to say and that is "Musicology" YOU ALL must agree that there is a message there! and it is and should be a message that everyone gets to hear but that does not necessarily mean its the first single, or the "expected come-back hit" There is no need for that. He and his respectable fans who would like to believe, never left. You negative folks are really becoming a bother to those who would like to respect this man for what he has done and will continue to do. Once and for all get over it. It's so ridiculous and petty. This man has given us over twenty-five years of music, and countless bootlegs and outtakes, etc.

If i woke up in the morning and read that he died I couldn't say he left me hanging. He has truly given me more than enough...more than any other artist to date, and I appreciate him and his efforts and whatever he does.

peace & B wild!

p.s. why can't there ever be more meaningful topics like individual interpretations of his music and his ART or something on a more intellectual level? with all due respect ofcourse...

I don't know.

I guess this website is like real life. With differing opinions, some agressive, some more friendlier, but if everyone in this world thought alike, how crappy would that be?

I'm happy that some have expressed themselves against my comment, which is what I naturally expected.

Thanks to all those that respected my comment and didn't bash me for making it.

It's not about being negative...because I really think that Prince is the bomb!!! I just don't like the single, and some are right, maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm not sure this one will.

Just an opinion.
