Prince finally mentions 'Jehovah' Nobody is mentioning Prince's speech last night, where he thanked 'almighty Jehovah'. This is actually the first time he ever used that name. Must mean he is a full fledged Witness now. So much for his taming. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I thought the shout-out to Jehovah was cool - it showed his dedication without freakin' everyone out. I think he's beginning to wear his faith a bit more comfortably these days.

Luckily, he isn't singing about going 'door to door', the 'theocratic order' and 'she in subjection to the wise one'. And that's what I find most important. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

Don't count your chickens, we haven't heard most of Musicology yet. Not that I am expecting it, but you never know. Mind you, if it contains half of the musicianship displayed on the rainbow children, then it could rapidly head to the top 3 of my favourite albums. RIP

Right on. If you're gonna thank the Father, why not thank him by name?

yes, this does appear to be the first time prince used the name 'Jehovah', which makes you wonder if prince will be droppin all use of the word from his lyrics.
elephants and flowers, etc. will either be dropped from setlists or changed up. but in no way should prince be knocked for this mention of JVHV. It was a very mature, respectable, understandable expression of thank you to the/his Almighty. there question still remains though over whether the name is not more correctly transliterated as Yahweh. so be it. last year, more like. Or last week, and last year, and the year before that, and the year before that... Look, all the people distraught over Prince's choice of faith should think of it this way: Remember at the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when Indy has to walk on stones spelling out god's name, and if he makes one wrong step, he'll die? Well, if Prince is ever in that situation, there's no way he'll get it wrong! ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

in my previous post, i meant to wonder about whether or not prince will be omitting the use of the word 'God' which i accidentally omitted midsentence in that post.
the way i understand it, JW's do not use the word 'God' at all, and so i wondered if prince would drop it altogether from lyrics. even in the midst of the JW and new world translation kick (for lack of a better term), prince still sang 'elephants and flowers' at the last celebration, using the word 'God'. perhaps for prince, God is Dead, a la nietszche Welcome to the New World Odor and

theres nothing wrong with having religion in your life, its a beautiful thing, the only problem comes in when you 'shove' it down folks throats....i will never look down on anyone for having their "god" in their life...i think its great... One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

And as far as his mentioning his faith on his records, or at least hinting at it, generally people who are excited about something "new" like to share it with everyone. What happens generally is that the new found understanding and knowledge of certain Bible truth's give you a "spark" so to speak. I agree that he can share it, but I'm sure some of his fans would rather not hear it, just like he wouldn't want to listen to a gospel CD by T.D. Jakes, it's just that some can get into it and other's probably don't want to hear the mess.
You also stated that "Knowledge is great power and refreshing as with the Truth." Is that your words or Prince's? Just wondering, because Jehovah's Witnesses always think that they have the "Truth", but that's debatable. I mean, I thought the year 1914 was a marked year and that the generation born at that time would be alive when the end came, but now I understand that that generation is actually an era of time, not an actual generation? I mean, how could anyone say they have the "Truth", when they keep changing what they believe and sum it up as "New Light". Doesn't make sense to me, however, if you like it, I love it. Peace. jojofran said: HiinEnkelte said: in my previous post, i meant to wonder about

Going off the quote in 2 Peter that 1000 years is as one day to God, yes that could be the case. Things don't radically change chez JWs, the details merely get smoothed out, from what I can see looking back at history. In the past there's always been some people who wanted to predict the date of Armageddon. Whereas of course according to scripture, nobody knows the day or the hour except God himself. So that has always been wrong.

For me it would be perfick if Prince dropped the words which had a tendency to offend (sexist etc.) but retained the superb music that ran through the Rainbow Children.

yup, i do remember, now that you mention it. (but did i really wanna remember and have larry's voice boomin in my head like that??!) but i just thought that JW's had no use for that term, and avoided it, especially since the word was too bound up with pagan deities etymologically, genologically, historically speaking, and was not a word that could sufficiently single out the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, etc... In other words the word couldn't summon, call upon, or even make proper reference to Jehovah. so one ought not confer any false power, or special significance to the word 'God'...and create idols but as you say, Larry says it.... so God is still love and love is still God, girls and boys still love God above. and i sure am down with that Welcome to the New World Odor and

Well, if Prince is ever in that situation, there's no way he'll get it wrong! Unless, of course, its actually pronounced "Yaweh", as most Biblical scholars believe (There are no "J" sounds in Hebrew or Aramaic). Jehovah is a very anglo mis-pronunciation of the word. Even many JWs acknowledge this. The same is true for the name Jesus, which is actually a mis-pronunciation of the Aramaic name Y'shua. There's nothing wrong with this, of course. God knows who you are talking to. Anyhoo, let's just hope that Prince doesn't go into any archaelogical digs looking for the holy grail! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

He has every right to address his personal faith in public, just like a christian would thank "God" or a moslem "Allah". If he truly believes the almighty's name is "Jehovah" then it's pretty obvious he should also use it and not shun away from it.

Jesus...in my translation of the old testament it says Jehova and later on changes to God...so what name u give that force that there is...does it matter?
What concerned me is the "Theocratic order" of the TRC..."ain't no room for disagree..." when this stubborn behaviour of view is still on...forget it...to rigid for me. I do respect man no matter what sex or ethinic background. Peace Juize
