America, and purple politics

my good friend and i were kickin back watchin some prince videos the other night and the video for 'america' came on. and he cringed just like he always does when he is reminded of this song. not really for its musicality but because he hates it for what he feels to be its message, and its politics.

a simple effective song about freedom?,
or just simply a naive piece of fundamentalist conservatism?

pro-patriotic in a good way, or bad, dumb, dangerous way?

is jimmy nothing supposed to be saying his pledge?
and if he don't, he gonna get the mushroom cloud?

"whoever said that elephants are stronger than mules?"
