Look I like some Rappers alot but Prince is a Musician.. Look at all the DIFFERENT key on DIFFERENT Music he's Created. Different Styles,OPERA,Jazz, Rock,Pop,Gospel,Rap,Disco evenPunk! See Prince is Versatile and he Plays many different instruments Well.He chooses Wonderful Musicians to play in his band and it's an Honor ya know. There is one thing in this whole thread that seems to have been overlooked with regards to talent. There are plenty of better guitarists than prince, better pianists, better singers, better dancers, however there are few that can do all to a high standard like he can, and there are even fewer that also possess the kind of songwriting talents and producing skills Prince does. Prince songs span a spectrum of music, they're lyrically interesting (on the whole), and for a large part of the 80's featured some of the most innovative production in popular music.

When I hear prince say he's gonna teach about musicianship, of course he's directing it to mainstream artists, because that is what he always was. In the eighties he was a shit hot "pop artist" who could do everything, who could you point to in todays climate who matches all the criterea he did?

Sure there is a whole plethera of non mainstream artists who are fantastic musicians, but I dont think prince is really talking about them. He's asking the question "why does mainstream have to equal manufactured?".
