Mpls Star Tribute will publish a Ten page SPECIAL SECTION ON PRINCE this Sunday

http://www.startribune.co...52061.html

Prince to perform live via satellite on March 29
Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune

March 9, 2004 PRIN09

Twenty years after he first appeared on the big screen in "Purple Rain," Prince will return to movie theaters for one night only, March 29.

The Minnesota rock legend plans to broadcast his March 29 concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles live via satellite to 32 Regal Cinema theaters around the country, including the Brooklyn Center Stadium 20 in Brooklyn Center at 10 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the theater for $15 and online at http://www.RegalCM.com.

The L.A. concert is the first major show on Prince's Musicology tour, on which he pledges to perform many of his old hits for the last time. Twin Cities dates are expected in June.

Prince will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next Monday in a New York City ceremony that will be telecast at 7 p.m. March 21 on cable's VH1. The Star Tribune is printing a 10-page special section on his 25-year legacy Sunday.

for those of U who cant get to a newsstand that carries the tribune, check this out:

the Star Tribune offers a service where you can "buy" a digital version of the day's issue. So you could log on Sunday and get the issue for 50 cents.

http://www.newsstand.com/...%20Tribune

Back issues are also available for $1.00

It's about time. This town doesn't respect him. Minnesotans don't give two shits that HE put this state on the map. Period.

A lot of Minnesotans on this board claim he is hated by his hometown. I wonder how popular this insert is going to be if the people on this board no what they are talking about.

HELLO!!!??? MPLS doesn't not hate PRince. Minnesotan's are just pretty quiet about him. He can drive around this town without getting mobbed. People stare at him when he comes through the airport but no one hunts him down. If you don't believe that his hometwon doesn't love him just check out his attendance numbers anytime he brings a tour to town. White bread MN doesn't hate Prince they just don't shower him with adoration. Downtown and Uptown MPLS, though, he is a God-especially to the local music scene.

Hey! What about the ORG? It sounds like there will be tons of news on Prince, but the news section is only updated once or tiwice a week. And RollingStone.com has no less than three articles on the man this week, for instance.

Surely, if the Star Tribune can devote ten pages, the Org can be a better news source than it's been for a while, right?

ben usually handles the news section, and he's in the midst of moving right now...hence the lack of news.

Yea it's tough, you get used to the BS too I'm sure. In Boston we always see Peter Wolf of J. Geils jumping onstage at concerts or members of Aerosmith walkin around and you kind of get used to it ad maybe don't appreciat them as much. I used to love J. Geils, but Peter Wolf tries so hard to still be cool with the local scene that he aint anymore.

confuse

hmmm, we must live in seperate MPLS's

wink

Granted the Xenophobia shows were last minute and poorly promoted, but after days on sale, you could still get GREAT seats to the Orpheum shows (which were eventually canceled)

I wouldn't say this city HATES him, but I don't think it's one of his strongest fanbases anymore.

I think part of the problem is us ungrateful fans. wink

After standing in the 40 below weather for 5 hours one too many nites only to be let into Paisley to see the Larry Graham revue, people jumped ship. Many of the people I saw down at Paisley in the earlier years got sadly burnt-out and laugh at me when I see them and admit I haven't given up yet.

On the plus side, though...Chris shows P a lot of love in the Strib. He always calls attention to the latest release and gives him generally good write-ups.

whatevs, it don't matter to me cos I AM EXCITED FOR THIS SUNDAY! WAHOOOOO!
