Yes, it's true -- I had a childhood friend named Prince. He was a black kid too . . .

I found this interesting later in life, when I became a Prince fan in 1982, at the age of 10.

When I knew this Prince, I was about 7 or 8 years old, way before hearing about the singer Prince.

This was a child of a friend of my parents, and we'd meet up yearly to go camping (RV) in Canada, at a campsite called Oxley. Any Canadians here know of that? We would also go to Jellystone Park (also in Canada). They even had Yogi and BooBoo (seemed real at the time, although they were just guys in costumes).

From what I can remember, of my OWN memories (not the ones that parents "feed" you) was that we had a camper (which was a converted school bus), and this Prince and I would ride our big wheels and go swimming. I also remember playing Whiffle-Ball at one point (and being terrible at it).

Anyway, I had forgotten about this kid, since we moved to a new house and no longer went camping. I think my dad severed some ties to his old "crew" back in the early 80's, sorta to sink into the suburbs and live more quietly.

My mom always likes to point out that I had the friend named Prince -- and I DO remember him, I had just not thought about it for a LONG time.

I just thought this was interesting, AND, maybe if that kid (now a 30-something year old man) reads this, he can shoot me a message. Just a thought.
