It would be unusual if Prince played Musicology on Ellen DeGeneres' show

The reason?

He rarely performs the same song on two consecutive TV shows. Off the top of my head, I think he's only done that with Endorphinmachine and Baby Knows.

Now, would it be smart to perform Musicology? Sure - it would make the song more familiar and it's the title of the tour. But would it be more fun for us fans to hear another new song from the album? You bet. I'd love to hear him perform something I've never heard.

You know Prince with that voodoo spell.... He can make you like doo-doo if he plays live... Sure Musicology would work on Ellen.

From Ellen Degeneres website:

Wednesday, March 3
PRINCE
It’s the one-and-only PRINCE, in a rare daytime TV appearance, talking about his new “Musicology” CD and upcoming tour, and performing some of his classics. Also, BRITTANY MURPHY chats about the DVD release of “Good Boy.”

BEAUTIFUL move. He should definitely play his classics....remind the general public of what they've been missing, even if they didn't know they were missing it.

I wish he'd come out with Mountains and When Doves Cry and 7 - that would be my DREAM set, right there.

ThreadBare

Ellen has created a bit of a buzz because of her penchant for breaking into once-impromptu dance on her show. It's become a bit of a gimmick.

I wouldn't be surprised if Prince stuck to uptempo dance grooves to complement Ellen's signature dance.

She's not a bad dancer, that Ellen.

What difference does it make? He could sing Mary had a Little Lamb and I would be down front cheering and clapping wit a big grin on my face.

Thanks - yeah, that's the one I meant, not Endorphinmachine.

As for the early ones, that's true, but they were all lipsynched - for some reason, that seems different.

Back in 1999, he performed "Baby Knows" & "The Greatest Romance Ever been Sold" at least 4 times each on a bunch of European & US talk shows.I'm not sure of the dates though.

Yeah - Booyah mentioned 'Baby Knows' at the head of the thread - I think it wins because he performed it consecutively:

17 November, 1999: 'Nulle part Ailleurs', Canal + (Paris, France)
18 November, 1999: 'Top Of The Pops', BBC1, (London, England) [broadcast a day later]
19 November, 1999: 'TFI Friday', Channel 4 (London, England)
20 November, 1999: 'Apocalypse Tube', SkyOne, (Newcastle, England)

Booyah's mention of lip-synching applies to most of the performances of 'The Greatest Romance Ever Sold' on this promotional trip around Europe.

Info courtesy of 'Turn It Up 2.0' & 'Days of Wild'

(BTW Booyah - looks like your prediction was correct - no 'Musicology' on Ellen)
