Am i the only one who dig "Life O The Party"?

Am i the only one who thinks that this song is a highlight of the album? I think it is one of the best on there. The beat is bumpin and I like the chorus, (the live version of it was even better). But from the likes of u guys, seems yall are dissin that jam.

I think it's okay but the worst song on the album. It is WAY better live when P sings it over the Hot Pants music.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I won't even try to like it until you admit that N.E.R.D's Fly or Die is one of the best albums you've heard this year. hmph!

BTW, I'm still working on "When He Goes Away"

Yeah 2 me this song is by far the low point.
Every over song sounds great except this track.
What everyone should do is delete that song from their CD compilation and add 'the Dance' from the Choc invasion and U have a perfect CD !
I just can't believe all the things people say !

I do like the song, but I wouldn't call it the highlight of the album. Some fans on this site just don't recognize good party music when they hear it. Some fans want all of Prince's music to have some kind of deep hidden meaning or thought provoking message, and when a song doesn't meet that criteria, they trash it. Life o the Party is just a fun party song. Prince.org is made up of people with lots of different cultural backgrounds. And some of the people who trash a song like Life o The Party probably wouldn't ever like a song like that under any circumstances... let alone hearing it from Prince.

Future Shock i agree..i noticed that many people here prefer the slow jam's to the uptempo songs i have a feeling if Alphabet St. would have been released on this cd instead of Lovesexy people would be trashing it too smile could it be (now don't get all over me here) Prince fans are getting older now and can't get into a party song lol (hiding)

If it cut off the intro of the woman singing.. it will be a tight song.. the drums should be opening this track, not that crap voice of hers..

This is easily the weakest track on the CD...BUT, it does jam live. headbang
Is that Candy singing? Who knew she had a good voice? hmm
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I happen to really like this one. I for one happen to like her voice in the song (that's Candi, right? or at least it was in the concert).

Cause its one of the only songs with anything resembling a hook...Prince used to be real good at those

I'm not sure i'm ready to pick a "worst" on this album just yet but i do know when i come to that conclusion Life O'the Party will not be it. I am diggin this and like the post said earlier...put it on a system that can handle the bass and make sure the walls can to because it definately has a step on your neck bass line.
That said, one of my favorite tracks on SOTT is "it's gonna be a beautiful night" however if that had been released as a studio cut instead of the live version it would have gotten the same mixed reviews LOTP is. Neither is a super strong cut on it's own but live they are two of the funnest tracks he's ever done. I think if LOTP had been included on this album towards the end and as a live version from one of his recent HOB shows everyone would be loving this cut.
Like Prince said the album is meant to be a companion for the concerts so it wouldn't have hurt to show off LOTP and maybe another jam (On The Couch wouldn't have been bad based on last nights performance) as live tracks.

oh yeah...that said..i was thinking that wouldn't it be sweet if the Sony version (since it's supposed to show off some of the old hits with a new style) coming out April 20th included maybe 4 or 5 live cuts from the Staples show? Maybe even go with a live bonus section after Reflection laying out the first 5 cuts of the concert...Musicology, Le'ts Go Crazy, Doves, die 4 U and Baby i'm a star. give the listeners picking up the cd for the first time a chance to see what the live shows have in store for them so they go out and get tickets if they haven't already (and if any are left in their town) and reward those of us who have already seen the show by giving us a little something to reminice on what a great time we had. I'll even dream a little greedy and say you could have an enhanced CD that shows the same live cuts on CDROM. Nice...i'd pay money for an album i already have 4 times over with a bonus like that.

I LOVE IT! Prefer it 2 the LIVE version, much meatier! DRUMS kick ass!

I think

"Musicology"
"Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance" and
"Life O' The Party"

make a delicious funk suite trilogy!

School's in y'all... wink

i like the drum programming.

don't care for the female vocal.

sounds a little like new power soul for some reason - which is not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion.

As said above, i'd just replace this with the Dance, or Vavoom or something and you've got a damn fine album.

This is the only real contemporay piece of music on the album and I love it!
Eventhough Prince sampled a Will Smith track. It's still booming with originality and Candy Dulfers voice is excellent on it.

As I sad in another thread,
Anyone else thinks that chorus sounds like a Spice Girls' Wannabe remix?:

"If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends, This is the life o the party, we're gonna do it right...
Make it last forever friendship never ends,
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give,
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is
"

cool
