Prince saves the world in 365 days With PR's 20th and the Hall of Fame induction, the world IS watching P this year. I'm wondering if Musicology was part of the purple plan. What a great year for school to be in!

sez you. Well don't you think that with these TV appearances so far, he's not gonna draw in the big crowds? "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Ex-Moderator | I think it's a gonna be a great year for Prince fans. But I don't know that the world at large cares much anymore. He's getting his due. Anyone who knows anything about music won't deny his rightful place in the Hall of Fame, etc. The tour will probably get more than your average amount of folks who liked him back in the day but don't remember much past the Batdance video. But I don't think he'll pick up any new fans by any of this. At least, not enough to make much of an impact. But that's fine. He's happy, he's making his living how he wants, he's making music. And those of us who are paying attention can enjoy as we will. |

I kid you not, Prince's comback will be a failure if he expects the public to support this shit-ass music that he's doing. If he's not doing pop/rock/funk type stuff that made him famous, no one's gonna give a shit. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

One song doesn't have to mean the whole album is going to have that same sound throughout.

You're right, and I will give the album a chance. It just seems that nothing has changed with his style over the years, so I would be very surprised if the rest of the album sounds different than the title track. I think ewm thinks the songs that were hits for Prince in the 80's would be hits now. Not necessarily so. The whole Minneapolis Sound probably wouldn't have the impact today it had back then. Those were different times and we were different people. I'm glad Prince is moving on and not trying to recreate what he had in the past. Playing the hits is cool because this band is so good that they can rework them and bring new life to them, but it doesn't work for all of them and many times (at least in concert) I prefer the new to the old.
And to evilwhitemale: It's not Prince's fault you think he sucks so much. If you don't like his music right now, that's because of your own personal tastes. The anger you have towards Prince and his fans should be anger at yourself for spending so much of your personal time on a site of an artist you no longer care for. Talk about lame.

It is my personal taste in music, and I have the right to express my opinion. If you don't like what I express, then just pass me by. Damn, I totally disagree. Hits like Kiss and When Doves Cry are just as fresh today as they were back then. Prince's classic sound is timeless. The new sound is good to me sometimes, but its his unique style that made him a legend in the first place that'd really get him somewhere with the proper marketing. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

i think this will be a cool concert. see him play a bunch of hits in a big arena. i enjoyed hit n run. personally, i think it would be great to see him on guitar, rhonda, and john blackwell, and maybe renato too and thats it. stripped down raw and rockin, but he chose to do a hits tour and that is cool. he probably wont do one of those for a long time so enjoy it! musicology is pretty good, tight definitely. its great to see him on tv so much lately - doing different songs each time too. my favorite was the tavis show. but the others were cool too.
