I don't dislike Maceo, but I do get tired of hearing his named called out all the time -- we KNOW who he is, you don't have to keep telling us!

I do prefer Eric Leeds though - he's been around PRINCE a lot longer, and basically IS the Prince "Horn" sound. Maceo is a legend, but he already has his own sound developed.

I agree with EWM, Maceo ages the band, and brings too many references to JB and Parliament with him. BUT, he's welcome to stay as long as Larry Graham doesn't come back!

and the joke is..? no offense to prince, but b.b. king could show him a thing or two on the guitar... i mean, prince is bad, but he ain't no b.b. king...

and as far as bo diddley... i think you need to do some research... to quote the song, "bo diddley put the rock in rock & roll"... and it's true... bo diddley was a great innovator in rock rhythms and the manner in which the rock guitar is played... particularly the solo...

i suppose you'd rather see prince playing with some no talent bastard like twiggy..? falloff... let me know when he has made the kinds of innovations to rock music and has secured the legendary status in the history of rock music that both mr. king and diddley have...

Fancy hating somebody that you don't even personally know.

How sad is that?

Dis-liking somebody's influence is one thing.

Hating somebody is something completely different.

Whatever! To whomever it may concern: you shouldn't allow Prince, his work, or the very talented people he chooses to work with, affect your life to the extent that it runs into hate.

Life's too short.

Hate? That's way too strong a word. Maceo and Larry have done a lot for the advancement of music. I don't even hate people who have actually wronged me in my real life.

1) please re-read my post..i never said that I (revolution 75) hate maceo..the reason this post was made was because of some previous threads that had some members complaining about maceo and his solos..etc..etc..
2) hate in the actual context IS a strong word but i am using the word hate as in the modern day slang.... like playa hating...hateration..etc..etc...
3)re-read every single on of my posts on this one...i absolutely love and respect maceo parker...he is truly one of the people who laid down the funk foundation (james,p-funk,himself,and now prince)...

I admit Larry has some cringe-worth moments (his verse on "The Christ"). Maceo's no Larry, but anyway Larry ain't the psycho Prince-eating beast you all make him out to be either.

Oh Lord, do you really not get the point? The point is that regardless of what a musician accomplished in his day, he's old now, and does not fit on stage with Prince. Prince can play with old men when he's old.

Well, I gotta disagree with the notion that Maceo makes the stage 40 years older. I don't think it matters what age you are in Prince's band, as long as you can play (and for that matter, he has Candy Dulfer to balance that out, since she is quite young).

Prince chooses musicians based on their ability, not age, race, religion, sex, etc. He always has, and I really don't think that will change.

Personally, I would love to see him play with Bo Diddley or BB. I saw Bo a few years ago, and was just blown away by his virtuosity. To be his age and still tearin' it up every night is quite impressive.

Well, I just think of it like this, guys like Larry & Maceo were
musical heroes for Prince when he was growing up and for him
to have them in playing in his bands now would be like if I
got to have Prince play in my band 15 years from now!
biggrin

Another thing that I like about Prince havin these guys
around is that they absolutely love what they are doing.
Larry, a funk-bass innovator and Maceo whom improvised
all over and helped compose some of J.B.'s most exciting
material are totally cool playing with Prince. thumbs up!
Sure i could probably take or leave another performance of
Pass The Peas (or similar covers) but if you check them out
on a live video, you can see how these guys are having a
blast performing them. I find that rather enjoyable.

apparently you don't get the point of talent... it doesn't matter how old an artist is... talent is talent... and at 70, b.b. king can still smoke guitar players who are even a third his age... let prince try to match b.b. on the blues, and you'll see how young b.b.'s fingers can be... lol...
