In the last few months I've been to two Prince gigs and the Family Jamm. Hands down the funkiest of the lot were 'The Family' during their portion of the Family Jamm concert. Also, the ensemble ending at the FJ gig was way funkier than any of the Prince gigs.

Now, I'n not saying either one is better but it makes you think...I genuinely feel that I would be more excited if 'The Family' were about to go a tour right now!

Musicology is going to feature great jazzy, polished versions of the hits but I wonder if it's going to have that edge funk that, ironically, 'The Family' still have?

I have to disagree. I definitely LOVED the Family at Family Jamm as well, and it truly is apples to oranges, but Prince and the NPG at the Fillmore was wayyyy more funky to me.

Wrong. The Family Band is great...if you like the Allman Brothers...which I do, but having Maceo in your band AUTOMATICALLY makes you funkier than the rest.
