Why James, EWF, Sly ... What About the Others???

Prince gives props to James, EWF and Sly in Musicology and in speaking to Jay Leno, but in seeing him perform since 1978 he has given at least as much attention (for most, more) to P-Funk, the Ohio Players, Larry Graham, Jimi Hendrix, Santana and the Commodores. Has covered songs like Flashlight, Skintight, Love Rollercoaster, The Jam, Hair, I Believe in U, Voodoo Chile, Santana Medley and Brick House for years. I realize he has also covered James tracks like Talkin' Loud (and Sayin' Nothing) and Sly (Sing a Simple Song), but I don't ever remember him playing an EWF track. If he ever did, I surely would like to hear something other than September ... how about Shinning Star, Sing a Simple Song, Serpentine Fire, Devotion or Reasons by Prince? It would be a kick to hear him tackle that Philip Bailey falsetto.

The point is I think Prince is still afraid to mention publicly who some of his true biggest influences were. I for one would rather hear P-Funk, Ohio Players and Graham Central Station referenced as they are not as mainstream and represent hard-core funk more for those adventurous enough to open themselves up to it. I would also like to hear Jimi referenced because Prince's music is about much more than just R&B ... where are the rock props? Isn't rock and roll alive and living in Minneapolis? What do you think?

That's another thing, I like the new band as I am a huge funk fan, but I don't think you need three keyboard players. I have really been happy since Prince took over sole guitar duties several years ago so we got a chance to hear him play much more, but I fear he will rely on the keyboards to fill some of the sound and play less guitar again. This is the first time he has ever had three keyboard players. He used to use keyboards for horn parts, but now he has real horns. Thoughts on this configuration?

Peace,
Scott

Maybe Prince is going for that 80's ELECTRONICA. HEAVY KEYBOARDS. Maybe he just wanted to do something different..Maybe he is going to eliminate someone. Isn't Renato the Top Keyboardess in the band? He's gotta keep Renato for sure... I also would Love to hear Prince cover an EWAF track even a COMMODORES TRACK would be nice.

Thumparello

He's playing it safe since he is coming back into commercial arena.

P-Funk--those dope heads are always considered a threat by most artist. Too controversial. But to see them live in a full 4-5 set is the shit.
