Prince tones it down?

Bye-bye, buttless breeches. In an interview with Tavis Smiley on Saturday night on TPT2, Prince seemed to say he has toned down the raciness because he's got religion and he's gotten older. "When you're 21 years old, you're going to try stuff. When you're 40, you don't want to be pulling out body parts. It's old skin. You don't want to be showing all that," Prince said. It looked to me, despite Symbolina's smiles, that he wasn't all that amused by a clip from "Barbershop 2," which lumped the rock star's eccentric behavior with others who are considered plain crazy. "Y'all don't want to admit it, but black folks are just as crazy as white folks. Mike Tyson is like three crazy people," said Troy Garity's character. Cedric the Entertainer's character interrupted: "...Hold on now. He's half-Cherokee or something. Don't put him in there with us." Tavis laughed about the hilarious clip; Prince gave measured chuckles and explained, "There's a dispute over who my grandfather was on my mother's side." Asked whether he is conscious of how the public has viewed him over the years, Prince said: "I don't care so much about what people say about me because it usually is a reflection of who they are. For example, people wish I would sound [the way I used to]. ... Cursing was cool when nobody was doing it. If everybody wears the same clothes, it ain't cool no more. You are trying to be different. One can't be different by being racy today. It's not interesting anymore." The buttless breeches weren't that interesting, and cursing and simulating sex on stage, regardless the age of the skin, has never been cool, Symbolina.

I've always thought buttless breeches were cool but hey...what the hell do I know?

I believe I'm hearing C.J. complain that she's not going to be able to think up column topics as easily as before. Her whole column there is less about Prince's statements, and more about her lamenting having to modify her journalistic beat. The true sign of a writer who needs a change in assignment and is afraid of change.

Even though Prince isn't gay, the "Symbolina" schitck strikes me as borderline homophobic because the "a" denotes a woman and Prince is known to be in touch with his feminine side. It might have passed as caustic the first few times, but now it's just tired, facile and crude. C.J. might want to change that lest people conclude she's not half as sophisticated as she's supposed to be.

Now personally, I think Symbolina is pretty funny, especially 'cuz it reminds me of Thumbalina (tiny) and Tom Thumb weddings (church weddings for kids...still not sure what this is about). Hell, I bet we all have nicknames for him and other faves.

Finally, just like a child who knows if they throw themselves on the floor and throw tantrums, they'll get a reaction. And including my post...here you go. If you ignore the child, eventually they tire out and go to sleep.

Buttless breeches were out of control but oh so Prince...liked what he had to say on Tavis about being 40 (tho his @ss is 45) and trying to be naked. I'm guessing he musta caught Sugarfoot from Ohio Players recently, cuz that's the PERFECT example. I thought I was watching my grandpa trying to be sexy, and it was not cool.

I find it all rather amusing. The woman is definitely running out of things to rag on Prince about. So now she can dictate what was cool? This coming from the woman whose most original insult is calling P "Symbolina"? Yeah, that's soooo cool!! Truly pathetic!!!

What gets me is that there are so many whacked things that Prince has done in the past that she could honestly criticize, but she doesn't do that. She goes after him in a real petty manner, coming across like a jealous ex-girlfriend (which she may just be, for all we know). All in all, she seems like a truly pathetic wretch who is desperately trying to get people to dislike P as much as she does. Her insecurities and immaturity truly come out in her writing. I think Jonylawson has a good point in that we should all just laugh at her stories, since almost no one with half a brain would take them as serious journalism.

CJ really needs to get a good "lay", why is she always on his ass?! Don't get me wrong sometimes I get angry at Prince for some stuff. But she never, NEVER has anything good to say and then she keeps say the same name over and OVER again, "symbolina" over and over. LET IT GO WOMAN!
