The initial reports coming out of the press conference were that Prince was trying to get all of the labels to release his album - later it was said he was talking to all of the labels and the one who was most excited would be the one to release it. The MTV article has the first story while the Billboard article has the later story.

I have to say that when I heard the first story, I said to my wife - Prince can be a bit loopy sometimes.

Anyway, from the people who were actually there, which story is right? Is prince trying to get multiple labels to release it? And if so, what would be their actual motivation in promoting the album if their competitor could end up making the actual sales?

I thought before the press conference that a deal with a label (WB) had already been worked out. Could it be lawyers are working out the final details so he couldn't talk about it today as planned, or is the plan really as strange as what some reports are saying?
