I Love Musicology

I think its the best thing he's done in years.

From what I've seen of the video, it even looks like being his most professionally-produced promo since Girls & Boys.

I know everybody has been raving about the Prince / Wendy hook-up but I think that when Musicology is released as a single, it will be HUGE... I can't understand why more people aren't talking about it.

I only heard/saw it, because they played two minutes of it on the end of that Tavis Smiley show. If you download the show from this link: http://users.pandora.be/p...tavis2.wmv you'll be able to hear the song.

Apologies to whomever created the file - I can't credit you as I canb't remember which thread I found the link in.

I really like the song as well, and you're right it's the best video i've seen of his for a long long time!

I've only recently heard it. I was worried by many people comparing it to 'The Work' etc. I wasn't keen on the lyrics for The Work. And more importantly for me, it just didn't have that 'funk'. It was like it was trying to hard or something.

This tune, right from the opening "arghh!", has my head bobbing. fro

Will it get airplay on the MTV's and sell to the mainstream? I doubt it. It aint what the general public want- damn, the public don't deserve it!

Will i be dancing my ass off when the cd hits my stereo? Damn straight.

If these two tracks are a reflection of what the album will be like we could be in for something really nice.

Finally! A few fans that can actually "hear" Musicology. I agree with you all - I love what I've heard of the song. I think Musicology is being severly underestimated by many fans. Here's what I think. I believe that the backing of a "major" record label along with what is clearly a high-qaulity video will take this song much further than some people realize. But, it will need time to grow on people that is for sure. There's something about the song and the video that I can't get out of my head. So I believe that given time, Musicology is a track that definitely has potential to stick with people in a positive way.

And in the end, even if the song never becomes popular, in my mind, it's still a great track - very fonkay. Although I would caution against trying to speculate on what the rest of the album might sound like based on this one song. Afterall, "The Work" and "Prettyman" do not provide any real indication of how the rest of "The Rainbow Children" or "Rave Un2 The Joy" sounds as an entire body of work. But Musicology on its own has definitely peaked my interest.

Thanks BinaryJustin for the link.

Is it me, or does it sound like a hybrid of the mid-section of BatDance and a slow version of Sexual Suicide?

You know, I think it might just work as a hit.

Definitely reminds me of the old days of the first time you heard a new Prince single and although it didn't immediately grab you, it soon became totally addictive.

Ah, happy days are ahead!

I was SO worried when I heard ppl talking about how bad this song was sounding. Some were saying it sounded like The Work, and I really just don't like that song.

Now that I've finally heard it (thanks for pointing it out Binary), I have to say, this song is funky!

I really like it, it had me moving.

I think it's a great indication of the new album. I'm very satisfied.

Long live the Prince!

to me it sounds totally like james brown, apart from the vox which are typical prince. but the slow sort of funky jam reminds me totally of JB. nonetheless i really did like the songf rom what ive heard. this, reflections and what do u want me 2 do seem to be a good indication of the album. i like all the songs. i wasnt sure about whatd o u want me 2 do being on the album but i really dont think he'd play reflections if its not on the album, and considering thats one of 2 new songs through the club this year i imagine what do u want will be on there too.

not his best stuff, but it definitely has commercial appeal i think.

it is a little corny, but that is what being commercial is all about isn't it?

it also might make people take a second look at prince for the first time in a long time...not that it really matters what the popular masses think - that might mean it will just be harder for me to get a ticket to his show.

if he performs this on leno, it will definitely be interesting to hear how it sounds live, because it has the potential to be a very live song. the way it is now, it is very produced layers of vocals (all prince), sample guitar track, and from the audio over the internet, its hard to tell if those are real drums.

I've listened to it a few times now...and I don't like it.

They are calling 2004 a big year for Prince, but this really isn't a big song...in fact its duuuuulllll

I don't think its gonna tickle the top 20

co-sign sigh

Prince is gonna have to do MUCH better than that and I really don´t care if the produces another hit or not, I just want good tunes and Musicology is as stale a song as can be, sadly

I love it too!

The performance with Wendy was great too, but I'm so happy a commercially released song by Prince is finally funky once again!!

Besides, the video is the best one I've seen in years, maybe the best ever..?

I love this song, I love Reflection and I hope the album Musicology will be at least as funky as the song!

Go Prince!

I don't really care if this will be a hit or not? You finally should stop thinkink in commercial categories. The most interesting fact 'bout this new song can be read in many postings before: it grows! Musicology is a grower, just like "Kiss" was back in the days. Where you aware of the capabilities of "Kiss" the first time you heard it?

Definitely co-sign hear. I "just" liked it at first but hearing it a second time I really got into it. It gives me thrills especially if you couple it with the reflection studio version.
