How much of this renewed love for Prince is based on the great song that he wrote, played, and sang or that Wendy was there? Did he suddenly get better by sharing the stage with Wendy? [This message was edited Sun Feb 22 18:50:59 2004 by NPGLOVER] Yeah, Wendy has that type of presence.... The presence of Wendy. It made the emotions all that stronger.... The female persona.... Plus the fact they hadn't played together in quite awhile....

This is a perfect example of what I have been ranting about to my friends about the Janet Jackson debacle...stick with me here, I do think it's related.
I think what Janet did was really only desperate (and not really offensive) and perfectly illustrated what an almost 40 year old entertainer has to do to compete on the Pop music stage these days. If Janet was a true musician and could take her talent in new directions, she could find a new way to express herself. For example, she could take a pass at jazz, instrumentals, or hell, even country (like Norah Jones on her new CD). But, she is in a kind of prison and has to keep playing the game that is designed for the Britneys, Jessicas and Christinas of the Pop world. But, with someone like Prince and Wendy, they have room to change and grow. They can take their music in any direction they like. Does that guarantee success? No way. Does that keep you in the money? Hardly. But, they must feel so free and satisfied that they don't have to keep making "Purple Rain" and "1999" over and over again. To hear Prince sing "Sister" or "Head" at this age would not be very exciting. (Hell, I remember thinking he was even too old to be singing "18 & Over" on "Crystal Ball". It came off as kind of creepy.) To see him in the G-string and knee high stockings with the raincoat would be sadder than sad. I am looking forward to this next CD. Not because I expect it to be a 12-13 song masterpiece, but because I am hoping for at least one that will show me he's still got places to go with his art.

But Prince was great and I agree that it was a nice song and performed very well. Threw the fan's a bone....so sad how some people just don't get it. I said it once and I'll say it again... You've got Prince and Wendy, the 2 greatest guitarists in the universe... on the same stage, at the same time, after 18 years. You don't have the honor of witnessing magic like that everyday. If that was a bone, throw me some more, please.
