The Trio's Rendition of Kiss at the Brits.

...was crap, in my opinion.

I was quite impressed to begin with, in fact I thought they had done Prince justice - both Alicia and Gwen did a good job..but then she came on and ruined it. Her rapping reminded me of Tony M, and I just thought "OH GOD NO shake, Don't...please...don't"

It was like hearing a D&P era remix of Kiss ft. Tony M, and that section just really ruined my opinion of the song to be frank; I was enjoying it up till then.

Anyone else agree?

nope...i thought they were out of their depth...poor alicia looked totaolly uncomfortable. gwen couldn't be heard. missy saved her ass cos she sang her own song.
these girls are talented as hell ...but unfortunately i didn't think they quite pulled it off.
they missed on the "i think i wanna dance" opportunity...you nkow beyonce would've shook her booty if her life depended on it at that point lol

but hey prince gets talked about again...all cool

This was REALLY bad. It was pure karaoke.

Alicia couldn't hit the high notes, Gwen's mic wasn't working and you couldn't hear her, and Missy obviously wanted nothing to do with it 'cos she sang "pass the dutch".

Anyway, when compared to the Grammies show the other night, it just showed how bad the Brits is as a show and as an awards ceremony. The much hyped collaboration between Beyonce and Andre 3000 was just Andre doing Hey Ya, then handing over to Beyonce for her to do "Crazy in Love". They never sang a note together!

Oh, and to top it all off, Busted won two awards!!!! eek

It's frightening just how shit the industry is at the moment. I expected better, These three ladies are well respected but if that's the best they can do disbelief it was awful. It was almost like they hadn't rehearsed it or something. confused

I knew i should have watched crappy Holby City instead!

It was truly awful. All of it. From first note to last. Curious, considering they are all P fans. Still, I'm sure he'll enjoy seeing some pretty, young things doing his song.

I was very dissapointed with the performance. Alicia sang pretty well, as did Gwen but I didn't see the need for Missy being there. The instrumentation was shoddy at best and th presentation as a whole looked pretty amauteur. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the worst performance ever, but it was lacking any real energy.

On a side note, did you all see Justin Timberlake as he presented the award to Duran Duran? He sang a line (in falsetto) from Kiss before announcing the award.

What was the point of Missy? She didn't have anything to do with the performance.
Alicia did very well, but as usual typical Brits Awards production messed Gwens microphone and spoiled the whole thing.

As for Justin singing his little line - without meaning to cause offense to his many deluded fans- Why doesn't he just fuck right off?

Big Boi from Outkast was adding scratches during Beyonce's performance - so it was a collaboration of sorts.

Gwen's microphone worked, but the levels were wrong. Probably just as well, as she couldn't do the falsetto.

The girls changed the words in the chorus to:

U don't have 2 be rich,
2 be my boy,
U don't have 2 be cool,
2 be my toy.

And yes... Missy Elliott is nothing more than an over-used special effect. How many times can she burst in halfway through a song, claiming that her rhymes are "original" etc. etc. etc. She has become a cliche. The next time I go to the bathroom and take a shit, Missy will probably jump out of my shower cubicle in a puff of smoke and start to drawl aimlessly like a Muppet on acid.

I'd love to see a Hip-Hop Sucks campaign like the Disco Sucks one.

They were doing a passable job of a performance until that *thing* flopped out on the stage like a mentally handicapped Care Bear.

hip hop doesnt all suck, just like all disco doesnt suck.

anyway, the kiss trio was alright until missy came on. she had absoluely no place being there, that nothing to do with kiss, apart from the star power appeal of the thing. gwen sounded weak, missy was shit, and piss poor as usual. alicia sounded great although the music was just karoake.

as for andre and beyonce, what a fucking joke. not a collabo at all. and they both mimed or sang over backing tracks which was yet another bad joke. how tragic, two of the best artists in their field and neither sing live. jokers.

Disco sure doesn't suck, but IMO Hip-Hop has more than outstayed it's welcome in the mainstream.

As for the Darkness, if I hear that song one more time.....! mad

The album is fun, but borders on Status Quo a little too closely. eek

Aw come on, Alicia Keys wasn't that bad. I couldn't hear a damn thing Gwen Stefani was singing. Only time she's ever been quieter was on So far so pleased. And Missy was all right - nothing to do with the song and shouldn't have really just been whacked into the middle of it, but she did her thing ok.

As a whole though, it fell flat. I mean when Alicia and Gwen sang, "I think i wanna dance..." and then did fuck all!

Oh, and there was another reference to prince - beyonce and a voice over said something like, "she's so in demand everybody wants to work with her from Bono to Prince".

Darkness were surprisingly not as good as usual hmmm

The rendition sure lacked energy and Missy was completely mis-used. What the F was all the Pass the Dutch stuff about. Not interested... Next...!

Very disappointing in my view. The only consolation being that this wold appear to be yet another sign of the industry getting behind Prince this year. After all, they could have sung any song by anyone. I dont think it's an accident that they "chose" a Prince song.

The performance was symptomatic of the entire show I felt. This is The Brits after all. Now I know we're used to Guest-star appearances from our betters(?) over the pond (Madonna, MJ spring to mind from the past) but this should ultimately be a showcase for British talent to the rest of the world.

Instead we get Gwen/Alicia/Missy, Bouncy, Outkast & 50Cent. All we could muster was Busted doing an awful version of Teenage Kicks (talentless - Next...!), a disappointing collaboration between Katie Melua and Jamie Cullum which should have been better. Thank goodness for The Darkness and Muse.

For a country that has such a diverse range of musical styles this show was a complete waste of time. No matter what your feelings about them, where were the representatives of Dance? No Goldfrapp, No Basement Jaxx. Where were the representatives of the Urban sound? No Dizzee Rascal, No Amy Winehouse.

Leave Rap and R&B to the MTV music awards. These aren't styles of music that originated in the UK. If the U.S is completely subsumed by this stuff then that's up to them.

We have a richer diversity than that in the UK. We don't need to ape the U.S. We should be proud of our music industry.

Sadly it would appear that the organisers of this year's Brits disagree.

Totally agree this performance did absolutely nothing for me.
Respect to the ladies 'cos I know they are talented but it just didn't work.
It completely lacked the beat & energy of the song.
Guess nobody does 'Kiss' better than the man himself wink
