This is yet another Grammy thread but has nothing to do with the performance which I really liked but would have rather it been a reunion of the Revolution (we can dream, can't we?). Anyway, my question (rather comment) is about Prince during the Luther tribute. The Grammys had several reaction shots of Prince during the show and the one I really noticed was after the Luther tribute, after the video of him giving a small speech and singing a line from "The Power Of Love". They showed Prince with his arm around his wife (I assume, and is it just me or is she looking really hotter than I remember her looking) while she was clapping but he seemed not to have a reaction. Maybe I'm picky and the reason Prince wasn't clapping probably had something to do with his arm being around his wife, but do you think? Do you think that Prince thinks well of Luther or not? Luther's solo records, came out after Prince's but Luther's work had been heard in various places before Prince came out but I doubt they really have ever influenced each other. Or do they? What does everyone think. Is there good blood, bad blood or nothing.

He may have just clapped or smiled or something and then put his arm around his wife. The camera caught him too late? They only showed him for a couple seconds. Not much to base a reaction on. He may have smiled and shown interest throughout the whole clip and we missed it when the camera cut to him to late. Who knows? I wouldn't let it bother me much.

It looked like he was trying not to cry.

Looked to me like he was a bit emotional, like a lot of others.

Glad to hear that I was reading into it too much (or I guess not enough as a lot of people say it looked like he was about to cry) and I figured Prince probably digged Luther.

After hearing Alicia "Cinderella" Keyes and Celine "Feedback" Dion, I would have had tears in my eyes too.

Ruben Studdard would have been a more logical choice to perform, since he just had a hit with Superstar and was nominated for a Grammy for it.

I thought I was the only one who noticed him during that part. I interpreted it as indifference and aloofness. This would be super cold at that point, being that the Luther tribute was moving. After reading your guys post I'm inclined to think he was trying to look invulnurable in order not to look like he was about to cry. Still, strange seeing him just chill like that after a peer was just given a tribute. he always was arrogant but this would be a shameful level of aloofness, if that is what it was.

Yeah, I see your point. Then again, it's kind of the reason Prince doesn't like to come out in public. People (especially the press) misinterpret his facial expressions and body language quite often. Him being a secretive, shy mysterious person, all they have to interpret is the nonverble.

My fiance saw the show and said that Prince lokked real bored!

lil brotha wasn't sad... he was pissed that the camera was on him and his wife.

It was really sad to see Luther in that state. I'm guessing he was as moved & saddened as anyone else. It's hard to clap @ a moment like that - another great one down, shit is deep...

I wish I had recorded this part...

Prince was doing what most folks that love Luther Vandross were doing, including me...

I thought it was real shitty that there was no standing ovation for Luther and my initial reaction was it thought it was really cold that Prince was clapping and had this bored ass look on his face, yet lately gave Beyonce a rousing standing O, but...

I will buy you guys theory that he was overcome with emotion and even if he wasn't, I'll accept that he is a mere human and does what he wants to do.

Prince Loves Luther & so does Mrs. Nelson... who DOESN'T like Luther???

anyway... i hope Luther gets well & soon. he's a TRUE Singer who's Career is awe inspiring...

I know that this is a Prince thread, but I thought that was just a McTribute to Luther. Two songs?! It should have been at least as long as the funkfest. Heck, I wouldn't have minded the funk segment shortened for a longer tribute to Luther. And Patti shoulda sang.

And an artist Like "P" gives respect where it is due.
