Who is the best guitar player Prince has had in his band? I think it was Mico Weaver.

Everyone who attended the PP parties in the late 90's know that it was Mike Scott. Prince and Mike even had a duel one night and everyone agreed that Prince LOST.
I found the paticular show in the events calendar and it even says the guitar duel occurred(although it doesn't say who won , but I know the truth). Paisley Park performance - Chanhassen, MN (USA) Date: Saturday, July 3rd 1999 Starts at 300 Locale: , Details: performance of an unreleased track, What Should B Souled - unknown ballad - What Should B Souled - Water - Every Day is a Winding Road - You Can Make it if You Try - Love Covers a Multitude of Sin - guitar duel with Mike Scott - Oye Como Va - country snippet - Release Yourself / Alphabet . Besides himself, I think the best in my opinion was Dez Dickerson, Wendy, and Levi was pretty great too.

You know what, I used to say that Wendy was Prince's best guitarist, but after watching a live video from the Controversy tour, I'm gonna have to go with my man, Dez.
Wendy is cool, funky, and badass, but if you saw Dez at work, you would think differently. My boy ripped it up on them solos. He played behind his head, with his teeth, he even did that Van Halen fret-tapping technique. But he could also get funky and bluesy too. How many other guitarists that Prince has played with have been that wild? Not, Wendy, not Miko, not Levi, or Mike. My votes on Dez. I give my vote to Dez, rips it up on the DM tour, but as a big Prince fan , I am ashamed to declare my ignorance of Mike Scott. What records/tours was he a guitarist for Prince?

Totally agree with you Dez rules .... he's the one who made a perfect couple with Prince ... All the others had too much respect for Prince to be a bad-ass-motherfucker .... and a good guitar-player needs to be a bad-ass-motherfucker in the FUNK-universe. I suppose that the orgers who don't vote for Dez haven't seen the Controversy-tour? ... all those wankers that came after the Revolution ... indeed, the Revolution was over: turning to shitty mainstream (or worse in the 00's). ThataintFunky said: I suppose that the orgers who don't vote for Dez haven't seen the Controversy-tour? Dez was third on my list. (and YES I HAVE the Controversy concert on tape). Why was Dez 3rd? Because even though he was a bad ass, he was sloppy sometimes. Levi was one ACCURATE mutha f**ka! He played the bass like a bad ass and probably would have played guitar the same way, but the difference is he worked under Prince during a much more controlling era than when Dez did. Still, he managed to shine. Mike Scott is a bad ass - badder than Prince for sure. Prince kept Mike on lock, too. Maybe he was intimidated?

Mike Scott!!! He had some nice "prince-ish" soul to his stuff
* When I was a kid I thought Dez because of all the TV appearances.. BUT having NO clue they were lip synced on American Bandstand or Solid Gold.. soooo when Dez woult pretend to play (but it was really prince in the studio from the actual album..) I thought when they got rid of "The Revolution" w/ Dez... I thought Prince was going to be over

I liked Levi.
Prince, Levi, Michael B. and Sonny T. Those were the days! See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

No, way. I don't know why y'all keep rooting for this Mike Scott character, but he sure as hell was no appealing guitarist to me. Sure, I've seen him in action. I have the Rave 2000 live concert and brotha man just did not stand out to me. Plus he wasn't as badass or hard rockin' as Dez, plain & simple. Miko was cool, but not as good as Dez. Levi was better as P's bassist, but as a guitarist, he was just relatively competent.
So, my vote's still on Dez. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

So, my vote's still on Dez. Mike was kept in the background on RAVE2000. If you'd ever seen him live, particularly in an aftershow setting, you would understand. Mike, Dez, Wendy and Levi were all incredible, to be sure, and I'm DEFINITELY not hating on them. Just think that Mike was the funkiest, most proficient player he ever had on guitar.
