HEY PRINCE!! That performance obviously wasn't for us...

Prince...if u hear me...(tap, tap on mic).

That performance wasn't for your fans, quit kissing the ass of the industry & playing ball. We all loved Purple Rain, 20 years ago. But come on man, ahh...I'm so bummed.

Am I alone?

It wasn't for us, which made me like it all the more. It was a performance by a legendary entertainer.

Maybe I'm alone. But man...I thought his voice was really strained & the song selection was horrific. "US" is people who think Prince still makes interesting, artistic, important, current music. I don't guys, that whole Purple Rain medley rubbed me the wrong way...

That whole grammy ceremony was a joke. man, sad shit

Well, no matter who it was for it was pretty awful! I can't believe how many people are defending that performance.

Prince's voice was as bad as I've heard, true. Hopefully, it's because he's been givin' us some trademark screams in the studio this past couple of weeks.

I'm positive that he made his point with the medley, as much as I loathe truncated songs. Beyonce actually made the right people tune in.

That performance definetly was not for me, I recognized genius a long time ago. That performance was for everyone in the last 10 years that has looked at the tatoo on my left shoulder and said "Prince is sooo over".
Sorry people... he's bigger and better than you ever could have imagined.

I know, I know, it was kinda extra... But so is the grief I have been getting for being a Prince fan all these years.

I have to say, I started this thread...and now its the day after...I've it watched again, and well...maybe I was a little off. His voice was hurting, the songs were poor selection, but he did bring alot of energy. He clearly whooped ass on everyone else. Just wish he would of choosen some cooler songs, instead of those safe ones. He made Beyonce work, showed she isn't ready for the big time...

I was a little off, but...what am I gonna say. I've seen him do better, but he is still the man

Hmm, the acoustics weren't too good. Why take Candy and Maceo if u can't hear them.

But still, i loved the performance, and i think a lot of people will.

That was my first reaction as well. Song selection - WEAK, Voice - OK. I *was* happy to see him doing the pirouettes again and especially to bust out the guitar solo. I am glad also that they mentioned it was the 20th anniversary of PR, otherwise, the song selection would have made it seem like Prince had resigned himself to being a "living legend" and isn't producing new music anymore. Wait a minute...

Btw, Beyonce looked gorgeous, and I think she *can* sing and is a great entertainer. I loved her solo performance, so classy and elegant, and she sounded wonderful.

I caught the first part of Alicia Keys performance. The acoustics were HORRIBLE during her performance, and she sounded off key. Usually she has a nice voice.. was she off key or was it the sound??

Who would have thought, Prince at the Grammy's as Beyonce's guitarplayer playing old-ass songs ... to me it was a fuckin' letdown. Uuargh!

it sounds to me like his recent club performances have been more "for us" nod He did what he had to do at the grammys and looked good doin it.
AND
I sure liked seeing him on the front page of the newspapers today! woot! and he didn't even win anything wink

i just saw the grammy performance on housequake.com and wow, i really liked it. I thought that beyonce did an alright job. she was good on purple rain but not so good on baby i'm a star and decent on everything else. I think she's just not that good at sing quickly. or dancing. i wish she would make like whitney and just stand and sweat.

Prince did an awesome job, but of course I'm way biased. Even though he didn't do anything wicked new I still appreciated hearing his older hits. Not too many people my age know baby i'm a star. ANd it was appropriate considering that it's purple rain's 20th birthday. So i don't care if the performance wasn't for the hardcore prince snobs who wanted to hear the lubricated lady, or west, or family name. that performance showed that prince has made and is still making some awesome music that is still relevent today.

i didn't dig it too much. basically, for me it was just nice to see him on a major showcase in primetime. but, truth be told, he's already got us. he doesn't need to preach to the choir. from a marketing standpoint, if he wants to grab attention he needs to remind people why they loved him in the first place. smooth move, image wise.

Bringing out "Purple Rain" felt like a 'Stairway to Heaven/Freebird" approach to me. Or,like esomeone said, "trot out the old guy".

"Take me With U" or "Nothing Compares 2 U" would've made more sense from a duet standpoint. That said, I enjoyed what I hear, it's just that I've heard it so many times before.
