The Grammy Performance- What I would Have done differently:

Not that it was bad, but it wasn't in his top 20 TV appearances either. I would have"

1. Opened with Let's Go Crazy (the Dearly Beloved Part would have sent the crowd into a frenzy)

2. do a duet with a song that was really a duet (take me with u, a love bizarre), not splitting a good song into you sing ,now i sing, now we sing together

3. closed with purple rain and a searing guitar solo.

But that's just me
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

meltwithu I totally agree. Although the performance wasn't his best, it wasn't his worst either. It was great to see him onstage though.

A lot LESS Beyonce - A lot MORE Prince.

Great performance - but disconcerting to hear her singing the song as if she wrote it - (well kudos to her for that on the other hand)

The only part I really didn't like was at the end when Prince was soloing and Beyonce didn't have enough sense or respect to SHUT THE HELL UP!

I don't think he should have done anything differently, nor that he should do anything I, or anyone else here suggest. I also don't think that was the intention of this thread. Having said that, I was very surprised that he started with Purple Rain (an album and concert-closer) and ended with Let's Go Crazy (an album and concert-opener). The opening chords of LGC would have sent the crowd into a frenzy, and the guitar solo on PR would have kicked butt.

I think you may have stumbled on the point. Purple Rain is typically a closer. Prince ends with that song and the show is over. Not good when there's 3 hours left in the program.

But since he's gotta play it (20th anniversary and all) he instead uses it to build up to the faster tunes like LGC, which gets the audience in a mood to party. Which is what you want for an opening act.

Or, I could be totally wrong wink

Or Prince used the opening lines
- "I never meant to cause you any sorrow,
I never meant to cause you any pain" -
as an apology to the record industry for all his craziness these last few years.
Like Timberlake he had to apologize.

Or I could be totally wrong.

Rich white men that own the record industry dont deserve apologies until they apologize for ripping off every black artist that made rock in the first place ie. Little Richard, Muddy Waters, etc

I beg to differ. It was one of his top 20; perhaps even top 10 TV appearances

And those suggestions are good but he has done all of them before. It was a fresh arrangement of old classics and it worked well with a fresh piece of ass like Beyonce!

Or he could have said:

Dear sell out artists:

we are gathered here today because i still have life
Here I am opening the Grammy's 11 years after telling
the music industry to kiss my ass.
When everybody was saying i was crazy for changing my birth name to an unpronounceable symbol near the height of my career
Raking in millions by selling 1/10th of what ya'll sold
Being nominated for a Grammy for a jazz album 95% of retail didn't carry..no video either, no promotion.
So here I am, a musically free man who can still rock the house like nobody can
So stand and applaud while I rip this guitar in your face with this soon to be 5 time Grammy winner singing MY songs...

Maybe I wasn't so crazy after all.

Go Crazy

PS ..Did I mention I was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while most of ya'll will be forgotten by next year?

Now Take Me Away

That's how i woulda rocked that shit
