That performance wasn't for your fans, quit kissing the ass of the industry & playing ball. We all loved Purple Rain, 20 years ago. But come on man, ahh...I'm so bummed.

No, you're not alone on this one...I have mixed feelings about it, I mean wasn't Prince just a 'fill in', wasn't Beyonce to perform with someone else??? NOW...all of a sudden, 'oh yeah, it's been 20 years since Purple Rain'...and Prince made how many *GEM* albums afterwards?!!! If they wanted to tribute him, as they are now making it seem, do so by some better means. But that was all about Beyonce, it was not about Prince at all...it was a good performance with Beyonce blowing Prince away, but Prince should've been the one saying, 'Beyonce sing along with me' (or however way she said it) rather than the other way around, you know what I'm saying?!!! But you're right, definetely. It wasn't for the rest of us.

STOP BEING A HATER. The performance was absolutely awesome that night. eye don't think he was trying 2 b anybody else but himself. He and Beyonce look very glamourous and photogetic on stage. It was 1 of the best performances that eye've ever seen 4 a long while now.

Some people are never satified!!!. Prince does not work for you/us and you/us alone. If you don't like it don't listen. If he would have played something else you/us would have complained about that too. Damn this is really getting sickening tired of all the complaining and negativity it is completley ridiculous to complain all the DAMN time.

Hey, i didn't like it sue me...I don't think Prince "works" for "us" or "me". But I do know that I shell out alot more money for his projects, & I do so cuz i love his art, & I'm interested in everything he does. So I'm thinking: PRINCE if u hit the stage-show them what they've been missing all these years, NOT this is what all u were into 20 years ago, so like it again. Those people haven't supported him all his career...there is alot they've missed.

As a fan, I've seen him do better...and I think because his heart wasn't in it. He showed he is the ultimate performer by out doing everyone & not being into it & even a little weak in the singing department. I'm not being negative, read my other posts...just my take.

Nero, I think you have a good point on one hand and narrowly miss the point on the other.

I agree that his performance from a "real" fan's point of view was a let down. How can it not be? We have followed him for so long that we all know what his career has really been like and where he has gone since '84. For the last few performances of "Baby, I'm a Star" I have felt it seemed rote for those of us who have seen his passion for the music when he's into it. I thought he was supposed to be leaving some of this old stuff behind, by the way.

BUT, I think we have to understand that if he really wants his music heard on a large scale (more than just us die hards) then he needs to get on a MAJOR label and get some POP music out there. Though you and I would love to hear some more of his current direction, IF he's looking to connect and, face it, make even more money then he needs to change course. The Grammy performance was, essentially, a chance for labels to see that he's still able to get a crowd going on national TV.

If he does get on a major label this year (and face it, with the R&R Hall of Fame and the "Purple Rain" anniversary this year, there is no better time than RIGHT NOW) he will most likely do it on his terms; owning the masters, no - or a very loose - limit on how many CDs he can release in a given year, and merchandising control. How hard would it be for him to do a "1999" or "Purple Rain" pop record and then follow it up with another "Rainbow Children" in one year? One hand feeds the other (to mix a metaphor.) His deal would be the envy of the industry! Every major pop star will want one.

It will be the "Prince Pre-nup"! Impenitrable!! (See "Intolerable Cruelty" for the reference...)

Quite frankly, I'm a little tired of Prince foresaking a broader audience just to make his most diehard/obsessed fans 100% satisfied.

IMO He deserved to be up there tearing the place apart with his most recognized hits, so I was real damn happy to see it happen.

I wouldn't say I was "missing the point", I think its just a different perspective. Like i said before, how many 44 year old artist are on the top 40 and make interesting innovative music...one always cancels out the other. Thats all. Its sad but true. I could live without the purple rain medleys and hits tours...but I'll be there either way. Just my take. Art over dough.

The performance was great, I have never seen him share the mike or the stage with someone and actually enjoy doing it. The After show Jamn was one of the best shows I have ever seen by anyone. When I read responses like the ones here, (negative) I suddenly remembered why I spend more time at the NPG Music Club. Ben you are great, thanks for giving us a voice. And all the Haters, buy a ticket to his last minute jamn sessions that he is doing and then post something negative. I dare you, as a matter of fact, I double dare you.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

What an absolutely ridiculous comment.

That's like saying someone is beneath u because they dont like the same soft drink as u.

Although maybe not aimed at me, I still think that was a ludicrously arrogant statement 4 u 2 make - so u thought the performance was great - more power 2 ya. I (personally speaking) thought it sub-standard, although (as I have said on a number of threads) the good outweighed the bad in the end via all the publicity he gained from it. So in that respect, it was a good thing.

Why are their SO FEW fans prepared 2 critise him when he does something that's just not up 2 scratch? It makes me wonder, it really does. His track record performance-wise speaks 4 itself - HE created that history ergo: he's gotta live with it. Like it or not, he's stuck with it, as are we.

Ive been one of the faithful since 1982, so dont think 4 a second that Ive only just jumped on board, trust me Ive been there thru it all, and Im STILL here.

...and the REASON Im still here? Because I KNOW he can do better - and hell yeah: the purple flock do too if only they could admit it. But the Grammy performance? In a word: 'competent' Nothing more than sucking industry cock. Still, if it aint broke...

Sure he can cut it live, in fact it's very rare Ive seen him and come away disapointed - but WAKE UP: HE ISNT PERFECT, he's as fallible as u or I.

GET A GRIP - OR GET OVER YOURSELF, IT'S GETTIN' REAL OLD ALREADY!

Prince has shared the stage with many a performer and enjoyed it. What are you talking about? As far as the club is concerned, please don't act like there's no negativity over there. Just go visit one of the threads on the message boards that homosexuals are bashed on and come back correct.

Nana, can I suck on your balls for a bit, puhLEEEZE?!

Once again, people are getting upset because not every single fan loves every single thing that Prince does.
