I think I figured out Prince's strategy...

I'm truely convinced now that 'something big is coming in 2004', with the nomination, Hall of Fame, and ass kickin' tour. Based on what we've heard from Vegas shows, Prince is dipping back into some older material...

I believe his method is to draw fans of new and old in, by giving them tastes and sometimes mouthfuls of his phenomenal catalog. Then from there infusing his newer material into the mix. (a method that would have been great a few years back, TRC was brilliant, yet it abruptly turned some fans/people away)

With this coming concert tour, his current fans are going to be orgasmic with excitement (literally, females especially), to older more experienced fans, it will be a breathe of fresh air, to newer fans whom are witnessing 'pop culture' go through a sorta funk-fused makeover (which everyone is jumping on the wagon) will welcome Prince with open arms.

This mixture of material currently on his setlist, is going to make far a super-sweet-funk-filled smoothie. I can hardly wait.

To sum up how cool things are right now, all I have to say is this...The man played a 7 min. extended version of 'Controversey' nod Nuff said.

What on earth are you talking about??? Prince isn't doing anything "new" by including both new and old material in a single concert. Personally, I would love to hear Prince play Controversy live, that would be great. But prior to the Hit n Run tour, I never thought I would hear "Uptown" live either. So just like always, with Prince anything is possible.

The Rainbow Children is great material. But the problem is that TRC doesn't mix well with a lot of other stuff he would perform. But to the extent that Prince performs hits and/or material from his back catalog of much more popular music, he cannot go wrong in a concert. Die hard fans like us may moan a groan from hearing Purple Rain for the thousandth time, but fact is that most people who show up at a Prince concert want to hear it and are deeply satisfied that they did get to hear him play such a classic.

But overall, there is no "strategy", it's just a different concert filled with different material.

Good thinkin' but he needs a killer-hitsingle then. Something to get them on the wagon. I dunno if he is willing and able to do that.

TRC is a great album except some of it sounds too chaotic and busy, as if Prince was trying too hard to make it memorable and original.

The more "simple" songs like Last December and Sensual Everafter are where the album shines imo.

Also, losing the Darth Vader voice would've helped the album a lot too.

I personally didn't mind it, but a lot of casual music fans would probably give up on the album because of it.

Extended? Last time I listened to Controversy, it was already over 7 mins!

I think you are just happy that he is doing a song "almost complete" rather than the 90 second "Take Me With U" approach.
