Kamasutra

I heard that alot of people don't like the kamustra tape by the NPG orchestra.
Whats wrong with the music?
It sounds pretty nice to me.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It could be because on first listen, it may sound like new age music, a light, weightless music without purpose that tries to be more profound than it actually is. Particularly the first track, which repeats the same theme endlessly. To these ears, however, it is a very mature composition, playing with themes, stretching them to see how far they can bend without breaking within the confines of the song. For Prince, this seemed like truly experimental music, working with song structures that were out of his comfort zone, with long stretches of creamy arrangements. It's also my favorite of all his instrumental works.

My kids love it. When they can't sleep, they ask me for their "Prince classical" CD.

I love it too, but I'm not sure about what comes really from Prince and what comes from Clare Fischer, some of the short pieces (or overtures) are incredibly good but as I told you, I'm not sure if Clare simply arranged something composed by Prince or he really "created" all that marvellous music.

Ubiquity

Its pretty, but that`s about it. No real musical innovation here, or skills of true compositive art. Prince should stick with what he can do best - pop music.

This was Prince's "ballet" phase, I think Mayte had him twisted on doing a bunch of dance-inspired projects. Or it could be that the Joffrey Ballet inspired him. Billborads was nice, although I haven't seen the video (I went to the show), then he did Ulysses with Carmen at Glam Slam (L.A.). Kamasutra was supposed to be the music to a ballet project he was working on with Mayte (she was starting a dance company at that time). Then she moved on and asked Tommy Lee to help her on the music (they met in the studio) or so the story goes...
