The Best of Prince & the Revolution

I want to make a “Best of Prince & the Revolution” compilation and thought that you guys would have some good suggestions.

For the purposes of the compilation I suppose I am only considering material recorded between Purple Rain and Dream Factory. Now, I don’t have masses of boots at my disposal but below is my draft tracklisting.

Comments / suggestions welcome! I would love to include ‘Sexual Suicide’ but would this be classified as a Revolution track?

1 Visions
2 Mountains
3 Do U Lie?
4 17 Days
5 The Beautiful Ones
6 Witness for the Prosecution
7 Take me with U
8 Strange Relationship (Dream Factory)
9 Computer Blue
10 Darling Nikki
11 Pop Life
12 Girls & Boys
13 Life can be so nice
14 Paisley Park
15 Kiss
16 Anotherloverholenyohead
17 I could never take the place of your man
18 Baby I’m a Star
19 Power Fantastic

I’ve had to cheat and use the SOTT version of ICNTTPOYM so that they all fit on the CD.

The Revolution is mentioned on the cover of 1999 ...
I see no 1999 tracks in your list???

In fact ... the 1999-album is the best of Prince and the Revolution ... so I have allready the perfect "compilation".

Either I'm delusional from being extremely tired or you just left Purple fucking Rain off that list.

1999 isn't a 'Prince and the Revolution' album though.

The Revolution is written backwards on the cover in small
letters, but the album is credited to 'Prince' alone.
The Revolution band hadn't even been invented yet at that
point. Plus, how can you credit the album to 'Prince and
the Revolution' when no member of the Revolution played
a single note on any track on the album?

Band members sang backing vocals on some of the tracks,
but Dez was the only one to actually play anything (the
guitar solo on Little Red Corvette), and the band wasn't
technically called 'The Revolution' until after he left and
Wendy replaced him.

i like your list there except for maybe Strange Relationship and ICNTTPOYM - i still consider it a Prince solo track as it was officially released as a solo track.
and where's Purple Rain? possibly the most obvious Revolution track.

Nah, Purple Rain is. Then Parade, then ATWIAD.

I think it's a good tracklist - but it's not a best of without Purple Rain and SISIA!!! Close the album with SISIA then PR.

The "Best of Prince and the Revolution" would have to be a
bit more strightforward IMO. For a start you'd have to
include all the hits/singles.
Something like...

1. Let's Go Crazy
2. Witness 4 The Prosecution
3. Pop Life
4. The Beautiful Ones
5. Girls & Boys
6. In A Large Room With No Light
7. Take Me With U
8. Raspberry Beret
9. Kiss
10. Anotherloverholenyohead
11. Power Fantastic
12. Paisley Park
13. 17 Days
14. When Doves Cry
15. I Would Die 4 U
16. America
17. Sometimes It Snows In April
18. Mountains
19. Purple Rain
.

In chronological order - keep in mind these are songs that best show the Revolution working together as a band, not necessarily the best songs of that period:

1999
Let's Go Crazy
I Would Die 4 U
Baby I'm A Star
Purple Rain
Around the World in a Day
Raspberry Beret
Paisley Park
Christopher Tracy's Parade
I Wonder U
Mountains
Anotherloverholeinyohead

Thanks Boris, I like your list too (and I was sure 1999 didnt classify as a P&TR album!). Re; your list, I was just trying to be a little less "obvious" in my choice and select the "best of" from a fans perspective and not necessarily based on what Warners decided to release to the general public. I don't know/have "In a large room..." though so couldn't put that one on my list!
