Well 2004 has officialy started off in "Prince land"

Prince shuts down yet another site about bootlegs & possibly pisses off and looses more fans, and probably encourages more fans (maybe even newcomers) to seek out bootlegs, completely defeting the purpose of his actions.

So, what's next? A performance of "Thoecratic Order" at the Hall of Fame induction?

shoot for the stars, Prince, shoot for the stars.

God, I love being a Prince fan lol

Trade bootlegs, people. Trade freely and proudly. Trade as many as possible. Cover the world with Prince bootlegs.

Just don't ask where, or how you should do this...
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

That is funny. The world knows Prince for his sexy nasty lyrics and he sings a religious song at his induction lol

Do you really believe that? I would think that anyone who still cares would've gotten their fill of bootlegs by now... but hey, that's just me.

We should organize big bootleg parties in various locations.

Play bootlegs, dance to em, trade em, pass em around, give em away as door prizes...

Prince is just following what other artist as well as the music industry is doing to stop bootlegging and downloading. The industry as a whole is suffering finacially and everyone is freaking out. I am not defending the industry or Prince but, come on everybody's got to eat and pay the bills. If someone was cutting into your livelyhood you would be upset to.

Agreed.. Prince is only doing what comes natural. If you were him and people were downloading your music and bootlegging, you'd want them to stop to. That's money out of his pocket. I'd don't blame him for sending those emails and stuff out, but the only problem is i don't think many people that had the bootlegs would send them in to him. No one probably did. But if i was Prince i would be pissed too. Prince just thinks that there is something he can do to stop bootlegs but as long as his music or any one else's music is around, there are going to be bootlegs..

How does Bootlegging cut into Prince's livelyhood?

This is not pirating we're talking about (the illegal sale of items that Prince is selling), this is bootlegging of material that Prince has no interest in selling at all... ever.

If Prince made soundboard recordings of all his shows available for sale on his website, nobody would make or sell bootlegs. They only exist because people want to hear recordings that Prince is unwilling to sell.

Exactly, people would throw away their bootlegs and RUN to the stores if official copies were made available.

So Prince is naive and stupid to beleive he can do something about it. Naive because he onbviously doesn't see it will go on and on as long as his music is around. Stupid because he doesn't see he loses respect and fans because of his actions.

It doesn't cut into his livelyhood. It's more likely it makes him more money, because many fans stick with him due to of bootlegs and buy everything officially relased.
