singles o+>

hello! a friend of mine who was fan of the revolution era told me to make a cd for him with the singles that prince had released after the first greatest hits album.

I think I have all the cd's that has been released on record stores, and some from the npg (xpectation, news, rainbow chhildren, one nite live, one nite alone piano, crystal ball, the truth and kamasutra, I yhink I'm only missing c-note), but I don't which songs have been released as a single.

Does anybody know a list or a link of all of them?

thank you!

(forgive my english)

Perhaps include Face Down as the video was released? At least it was in rotation on "The Box."

Wasn't released as a single though. I never understood why videos were made for tracks that weren't singles

hmmm

I don't think it was actually. Perhaps a few promo copies
surfaced but the label folded before an official single
of the song was released.

It was a close call tho, as the video had already been
shipped to tv.

Anyways, the remixes ended up on a bunch of boots and are
now widely spread.

But as for an official single ... confuse

I think that the Purple Medley og 1999:the new masters should be counted in as singles as well.

And even Super Hero with NPG & The Steeles
I'll have another glass of you.

Well, if you're gonna do that than you should also count

"Dolphin" and "Lovesign"

As far as Prince was concerned those were the singles
but he just wasn't allowed to release them.

The videos were cool though.

I don't see how Dolphin & LoveSign is similar to the other 3. Those 3 are actually released as singles (cool remix om Super Hero) the other 2 weren't.

Anyway, I agree that think that they should be listed as singles as well. (They are in my mind, but not in my recors collection)

i don't know if its promo or not (it doesn't say 'promotional copy: not for resale" anywhere) but my copy has several remixes and was available at my local record store. it is in the thin, european style slim case. its definitely not a bootleg, that's for sure.

Yeah, I knew I'd left off a few things (hence the "fairly
complete" comment).

I'm not sure if the version of 'U Make my Sun Shine' that
was sold in stores really counts as an 'official' release.
It was more a case of Prince allowing anyone to bootleg
the single if they wanted, and Wingspan took him up on his
offer (as well as adding a couple of snippets of tracks by
their own artists on the release too). The real 'offical'
release of this single was only sold at concerts on the
Hit 'n' Run tour and through the NPG website, and was
manufactured by NPG Records rather than Wingspan.

I should have included the Japanese promo of Endorphinmachine
though, as this was seriously being considered as a proper
single release (and not just in Japan).

And yes, I should have included 'The War' by The NPG too.

I'm not convinced about TMBGITW Mustang Mix '96 though, as
I've yet to see any hard evidence that this was ever even
promo'd. It's surfaced on many bootlegs, and I've seen the
intended artwork for the single. But as far as I've been
able to confirm they never got as far as pressing any actual
promos of this track, and the artwork never actually went to
print. The circuating boots of this track come from some
in-house cassette and CDRs that leaked out of the park.

I'll update my list in a while...

Here's an updated list.
'Proper' single releases are in bold
(ie, singles that were available to buy in regular record stores)
I've also only listed each track once (as some tracks had
multiple promos with various mixes on each).

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
Love Sign (promo only)
Letitgo
Space

Dolphin (video made, planned as a single, but no promos made)
The Purple Medley
Pussy Control (promo only)
I Hate U
Endorphinmachine (promo only)

Jam Of The Year (live MC) (NPGMC release only)
Face Down (promo only)
The Truth (NPGMC release only)
Extraordinary (promo only)
5 Women (promo only)
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
Man 'O' War (promo only)
U Make My Sun Shine (ltd.ed. tour release only)
Supercute (ltd.ed. tour release only)
The Work (Part 1) (NPGMC release only)
She Loves Me 4 Me (promo only)
Last December (promo only)
Days Of Wild (live) (NPGMC release only)

There were also the following releases by The NPG...

2gether (ltd.ed. tour release only)
Super Hero

The Good Life

The War (NPGMC release only)

The One (promo only)

Muse 2 The Pharaoh

Some of them had remixes made and videos, but never made it
past a few in-house CDRs and cassettes.

Not sure about this - I'm sitting here looking at my copy of U make my Sun Shine on NPG records, in a cardboard sleeve. Only 2 tracks. Pretty sure this is the official release, and I bought it from Amazon (new). So it was available elsewhere.

If it's in a card sleeve with kust the 2 tracks, and on NPG
Records, then that certainly sounds like the official
release to me too. Though I've not heard of it being sold
through regular retail outlets before. Has anyone else

I believe that Best Buy had at least 3 versions of the cardboard encased CD. One of them was the NPG version and there were at least 2 alternate label versions with differing "snippets". Prince and Best Buy had a somewhat friendly relationship for a while, which would sort of explain the NPG distribution.

Here's a quick description of the Official version of
'U Make My Sun Shine'

It comes in a card sleeve (not a case) and has 2 'front
covers', on one side it has the familiar Prince and Angie
Stone cover for 'U Make My Sun Shine' and on the other side
it has the cover for 'When Will We Be Paid?'. Other than the
artists names and the song titles there is NO other writing
on either cover (no record company name, no legal stuff
nothing).

The disc itself printed plain purple with the writing
showing through in silver. It has 13 lines radiating from
the centre towards the bottom edge (like sun rays) and the
NPG Records logo just to the left of the centre-hole. The
legal stuff is written in a semi-circle around the edge
between 7 o'clock - 1 o'clock, and the track titles and
artist names are written in 2 semi-circles further in
towards the centre between 12 o'clock - 5 o'clock.

It would be interesting to know how widespread this version
was available in regular retail outlets.
