And that Morris Day voice in DMSR. I've never heard him speak like that! So who created that voice? Prince or Morris?

Prince created that whole thing.Listen to P's demos and you will witness it.Listen to Chocolate,Do Yourself Favour, and Cold Coffee and Cocaine, for example. I mean,Morris is cool, but that's P's personality.Watch Morris in interview sometimes;Moris is too shy and lacks that unscripted charisma.

Watching him perform Purple Rain in that show gives me goosebumps. Even though I have heard it a million times on the album, when you see him doing it live...awesome.

My only quibble is Wendy is a little rusty on the guitar(solo on Little Red Corvette).

Yeah, I noticed that too...'tis understandable though, considering this was her 1st time playing live with the rest of 'em.

...and it doesn't help much when Princey leaves her playing the opening chords to 'Purple Rain' for almost 5 minutes. lol

Can't really say rusty though, it was all new to her at the time so just a little stage fright I'm sure, c'mon she was 19 years old. And I'm sure she didn't mind playing the intro to Purple Rain, afterall, the intro is something that she played for Prince and suggested it for the intro. nod

what's the video quality of this? It looks like it was 'professionally' shot, at least with the crappy cameras they had back then! Does this mean it could be officially released one day???

so, someone posted that there is a very clean copy of it on tape and snippets of it were used in a BBC documentary or something? What are the details of this BBC documentary...like name, and year it was aired? I've seen afew posts about a newish documentary on Prince I'm gessing this is what they're talkin about...I'd like to check that out.

As for the 83 1st ave show itself...yeah it WAS KILLER...i use to have this show on tape too...someone swiped it years ago though. I remember enjoying this show a lot. I always dug this old version of A Case If You..and i remember DMSR being real extra funky.

I've still got the audio to the Rehearsal for this show from the da before.. it's really great too...the rehearsal has nice loose versions of 'Electric Intercourse', 'A Case Of You' a great edgy guitar heavy version of 'Computer Blue' and the nice fuunky 'Africa Talks To You' cover jam...

In fact...i remember when i had the video that i actually liked the REHEARSAL versions of many of the songs above just a little better than the official performance versions...although I haven't heard the actual live show performance in a long time (I don't have the audio to the official show...just the rehearsal) ...so I guess I'll just need to track down a copy of the official live gig again to compare the two again huh?smile

THE highlight 4 me - never fails 2 blow me away every time.

Justhemusic... the documentary was aired in very late 1991 (or 1992 - cant remember which, but Im plumping on the former) and was a BBC documentary by respected program: 'OMNIBUS' - all the footage was supplied by Paisley Park, who allowed them access 2 much never-vefore seen/aired material - definately worth checking out if u can find a copy...

This is a great little doco - the best Prince one for sure. It's worth getting just for the 15 sec snippet of the First Ave performance - the opening verse of Purple Rain!

So I finally have this video and I must say that it was just MINDBLOWING! One of the most excellent and superb performances by Prince and his funk/rock army that was The Revolution. I also got to hear the Purple Rain tracks in their raw, unedited versions. After all, this was before the album came out.

The highlight of this for me, of course, was the encore presentaion of DMSR. F***in' ROCKED!!! headbang
And the other cool thing was that I thought my hero abandoned the Dirty Mind getup a while ago. But oh no, he decided to get funky again.

It was awesome. big grin
