Just saw the ad (on the Superbowl). Looks like he's not the 'surprise opening', but he will appear. Not a surprise - Prince is no longer popular enough to warrant being the big surprise for the Grammy's.

By the way, he was named as "Music legend Prince" during the commercial.

This is awesome news. I really hope his performance sets the show on its ear and stands alone. No glamour shots, no suspension wires - just a medley of music that properly displays the breadth of his talent and musical diversity.
Something that highlights his vocals, the tightness of the band and a guitar closer to make their jaws drop.

Can't wait

No pressure P smile

PUH-LEEEZE NO MEDLEYS!!!

Serious musicians DO NOT play medleys.
No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

PapaRobbie, I love yer avatar. I'm just trying to point Prince in the direction of playing a medley...he ALWAYS plays medleys, and personally I've heard from at least a dozen people (hardcore and casual) who have complained about that...it's just annoying.

Just for the record, the artists who perform on the Grammys tend to always play something from their grammy-nominated album...it's the chance to hear the nominated music live. So, be prepared for Prince to play something from NEWS...

The Grammy line-up is the best I've seen in years..

-Prince
-Madonna
-Janet
-EWF
-Outkast
-Parliament/Funkadelic
-Barbra Streisand

Something tells me that P will win the Instrumental Album award...I've always believed the Grammy's to be fixed in some way and with P being nominated for this category which is one of the categories NEVER televised...it will probably be televised this year and GUESS WHAT...Prince will win, do a speech..and BAMM! He is suddenly back in the spotlight and start what could possibly be the most exciting year of Prince's/ and our lives!
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

If he does something from N.E.W.S. I will cry. Not because I dislike the album you understand... but the Grammy's is a huge event. A perfect opportunity to remind the world why they fell in love with Prince in the first place.

He should do something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Well, maybe not the last two, but definately something old and something new.

And not Raspberry fucking Beret.

Imagine him coming on and doing Controversy or something? How amazing would that be? Or perhaps When Doves Cry. Something explosive that the masses know. And then he could use the international exposure to his advantage by performing Musicology or something.

he's NOMINATED for N.E.W.S.

he ain't going to go up there on stage and play summink that the Grammy's didn't nominate him for...

even tho i really don't like N.E.W.S, even i can see the logic of playing it @ the Grammy's.

This is an award ceremony. It's all about PR and exposure. Since when does logic come into it?
