Are you a fan of the music or the man?

After reading all the hoo-hah about Prince lately, I get more and more turned off by the man.

But I will always be a fan of the music (For You - Batman) and with Prince, it seems easy to love the music while disliking the man.

Anyone else feel that way?

I don't hate him, but I would find it difficult to get all mushy if we met in person.

It would be more like "What's up, man?" and a short meaningless conversation.

But then again, I have never been an ass kisser...

Strictly music, man.

And yes, you can seperate the two. Especially since Prince rarely supports his words with actions.

I like the man and his music.
I have always found it difficult to enjoy anything from a person I don't like.
I doubt I would accept anything from someone I detest.

(well maybe except a valuable gift with no strings attatched)

Yes, I agree with you. Under normal circumstances that is true for me. In this case, I had the music for years and years and knew jack shit about the man.

Now that I am learning more about the man, it's just a turnoff.

I mean c'mon. Taking cameras from kids???

The music. But I'm over thirty, it would be pretty pathetic to be a fan of the man, right?

i'm strictly a fan of the Music. In the late 70's i was a fan of both the man and the music. If he would get off of his egotistical high horse, i would once again be a huge fan of the man. But until that happens, i'll just enjoy his music.

U'd be surprized there are fans who don't really care for his music but like him---
pretty delusional.

There is no way to separate the two. The man made that music. Even if Prince is eccentric and a bit of a jerk sometimes, he's still the person that made that music.

The music IS the man. It IS Prince...it is part of him. He took blank, silent pieces of tape and did all the voices and instruments and those songs are a part of his personaity and soul.

So I'm a fan of both, because it couldn't be any other way.

Well, the man himself is a maze. But, why would you venture through a maze, when you can just pee on the grass?

Both! But the music always comes first for me.

Having seen the man in the flesh, he seems like a pretty down to earth guy, quite sharp and funny, who just really likes to do things HIS OWN WAY. And I have a lot of respect for that, especially since that methodology has brought about such brilliant music. Sure, that ethos doesn't work in life ALL the time, but he's stuck at it and I think it has benefitted him well.

I really think Hahn's book has clouded a lot of orger's opinions...it WASN'T a very good book (yes, I own it and have read it) and I think it's a case of DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!

It's hard not to base your personal impression on hearsay and speculation, but what can you do (sigh).
However I very much enjoy his professional public (on-stage) persona, this and his music together is perfection. Stick to this and he's just great.

2 b Totally Honest 1nce i started 2 listen 2 PrinceMusic in Heavy Rotation is when i found & met my wife. so if it weren't 4 the influence of P & The PurpleFunk then i wouldn't have a Florida NPG FamGroup or would've met my wife or had my son: Prince...

so everything from 1996 til now has been P influenced (4 me)... that's y i like the man & Love the Music...
