The best 10 seconds of Prince music ever

My vote goes to:

"Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be... PLEASE!"

such a spine-tingling moment, the way the vocals double up with camille and the bass singer, and the way he says "please"... i get shivers thinking about it. that song makes me cry.

The last 20-30 seconds of "When 2 R In Love". You have to
turn the volume up to maximum to be able to enjoy it in
all it's mindblowing glory.

It's as if the music up until then has been a mirror kind
of surface and all of a sudden, this huge bubble of air
rises up from underneath it and lifts the waterline through
which it breaks upward.

Beeds of water drip down the bubble as it slowly manages
to lift itself from the water and up up up skyward.

THÁT's what those last few seconds of that song sound like.

Go listen to it..

now.

NOW!!!

The opening to When Doves Cry!

The squealing guitar starts up and you think its going to be a rock song but then the drum machine starts up and you just know that its Prince.

Oooh - that's a good one!!

Im gonna open this up a little here, and say:

(released) studio work:
Where he lets rip at the end of 'The Beautiful Ones' - a crescendo of heartaching screams. Awesome.

(unreleased) studio work:
Empty Room (95 reworked version) where he implores:
'Baby why did u leave me all alone?' - then goes in2 THAT solo...WOW! eek

Live:
Just My Imagination - Live at Camden Palace, London 1988
the bit at 7:35 in2 the song (yes - I love it THAT much! lol) where during his spot-on solo, he hollers with such emotional conviction, u can tell at that one precise moment, he and that song are ONE. MY fave prince moment by far - I just adore this performance 2 death - even over the superior sounding Trojan Horse version... thumbs up!

on film:
where he humps the fuck outta those speakaz during Darling Nikki:
'Your Darlin' little Prince wanna grind, grind, grind...' *cue key stabs* headbang
lol

or... the 1st 10 seconds of Let's Go Crazy where he's silhouetted by smoke in Purple Rain...

or the bit where he cooly rides past the assembled throng outside the Avenue,

or...THAT 'ass' moment during 'I Would Die 4 U' lol

or...(this is a good one!) in UTCM at the party where Mary Sharon notices him 4 the 1st time on the steps, and their eyes lock, and he flutters his eye lids, smooths his hair and generally preens and flirts like a MF - hilarious!

Great thread! 5 Stars!

Do Me Baby live in Detroit, the YEAH YEAH screams and the sound of the microphone hitting the deck. You can just feel it!!

The line in God, "to rule the night" gives me goosebumps always every time.

every single live version ofHCUDCMA at the "down on my knes begging you please, pleeehhhessse" as the vocals scream the knees bit the then up and down the scale with the pleeesshheeesee bit.

Just My Imagination - don't have it, wish I did, but remember it sooo clearly from the Lovesexy Tour, every performance just grew and grew and I so looked forward to him picking up the blue angel every night and holding my breath for the opening chords.

There are so many!!!
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

Hey, That segment in the Camden Palace "Just my Imagination" performance is exactly what I was thinking of when I read this thread title!! (I also know what you mean about that moment in Empty Room... Awesome...)

To add my own here, I would say:

1) the guitar break immediately after "not bad for a girl!" during "Play In The Sunshine" in the Sign O' The Times movie. None of the other Sign O' The Times shows I've heard quite hit the same nerve during that song.

2) the instrumental bit in "Crystal Ball" when the music starts "spiralling out of control" and then simmers down into that jazzy bit.

3) The "bitch!!" break during "Why You Wanna Treat me So Bad" on the 80/81 shows.

4) The added intro to the 12" of Raspberry Beret and also the wah-wah call/response stuff on the America 22 min remix.

5) Wendy's rhythm guitar intro to "Irresistible Bitch" on the Purple Rain shows.

How about the very end of Strange Relationship. Where the music is completely robotic and controlled. Too bad Prince doesn't make music where that is the starting point of the song. Just imagine where things would go from there.

That's definitely one of my favorite parts in music!

I also love the beginning of Little Red Corvette.

This one is fairly easy...

The solo on ICNTTPOYM from the SOTT movie

and

Parts of RAVE from the 2nd Show CD. That was an amazing jam.

He had more passion in those two examples than most people have in their entire career.

Shit, i forgot this gem too. Personally, my favorite prince song ever! Any time from this works. Especially the extended version where the double kick drum is rocking towards the end of the song. That just sounds cool. Okay, I'm done. smile
