Don't worry, I'm posting in the right forum. I'm not interested in discussing the lame group with Bernadette Cooper, I'm talking about the unreleased Prince cut.

Prince just goes OFF on bass guitar on this and as many times I've heard it, I can't help but wonder what the finished product may have been. The two versions I've heard are with either linn drum and keyboards or just Prince on bass guitar. Was there ever a version with vocals?

Any thoughts?

There isn't a vocal version to my knowledge. Was listening to the bass only version myself on Testament yesterday.

Excellant.

No. And the "bass version" is nothing but the bass track popped out of the mix from the synth original, surely you figured out that? The engineer (/assistant etc.) who was responsible for bootlegging it just thought he could sell two versions ahead. As far as I'm concerned, the bass track shouldn't even make it to the Prince unreleased catalogs. It equals with the "bootleg version" of "The Cross", which just has different kind of post-processing than the final product on SOTT.

I guess not. Bizarrely, the sound quality of the extracted bass is nowhere near the quality of the actual track. So it must have passed through several people first.
