Bootleg questions...

1) When did the first Prince bootleg first come in2 circulation? Was it with "the Black Album" in 1987 or were there any b4 that one?

2) What was the first Prince bootleg U can recall seeing, and what were your thoughts/reactions 2 it, seeing this unofficial Prince item that U never saw or heard of when U swore your collection was complete?

The first one I saw was sometimes in 1987 (some months before the black album was withdrawn) "Pop Life", concert from London 1986

Well depends if you are talking about pressed CD bootlegs or tapes.

Tapes would have started getting traded (on a small scale at least ) in the early 80's.
Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

The first pressed bootlegs were on vinyl, not on CD

I'll have a stab at answering.

The first "pressed" bootleg was "From 1999 till now" in late 85.

Second was the Prince Megamix, with the Fatbag remix of "Baby I'm a star" on the B Side.

Next came Charade.

Next came the first live album, which was "Prince Live In Rotterdam 86" (The one with the "Stop fighting!" bit during America).

Then the flood gates opened, and we saw stuff like the Purple Rain Live Show, transferred onto Vinyl.

Then there was a whole glut of crappy releases, as the technology became widely available.

I can remember the first CD. Anyone? I think I might have been the black album in 88 or 89?

One of the earliest outtakes was "Lisa" and "Gotta stop (messin' about)" the latter of course became his first b-side in the US. Both songs are from circa 1980. There have been Prince bootlegs for years before "The black album". Some of the best coming out of the 1999 sessions.

The first bootleg I ever owned was on vinyl and it is called "The regent of first avenue". I still have it.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Chocolate Box was a very early bootleg.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
