What We Fail 2 Realize

Peace Fam...

i was reading something posted in another Thread by theblueangel & i had 2 say somethin':

what we fail 2 realize is Prince makes his Music 4 himself as he's said in the Past & since we as Fans or Famz pay 4 his Music should we have a say in it that he changes the lyrics 4 this song here or there?

isn't it his song?

& who r we 2 Question it?

or am i wrong?
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I really don't think there's a wrong or right, it's purely the opinion of each fan. My opinion is if he feels that he needs to edit the songs...at LEAST do a good job of it. Like on the Rebirth of the Flesh rehearsal jam he sent, it sounds like there was an electrical surge or something. And what's funny, when I hear these horrible edits he does, it only makes me go and pull out my original anyway. So I don't get too upset when he does the editing thing because he'll never be able to come to my door and get my originals anyway. So it's kind of pointless for him to edit himself because in the Matrix (which he's such a big fan of) Prince still cusses like a muthafucka. nod

thats cool analogy, Prince is out of the matrix..and some want to be put back into the matrix..we all know we cant put someone back into it (prince) so maybe some of us like Cypher want to be in the matrix still...or we have the boots and old stuff when we want to jack back in...but its too late for being completely like Cypher because Prince has already thrown us OUT of the matrix and awakened us ala' Morpheus..we now have the knowledge that there is more to it than Darling Nikki...so if we want we can go back into the matrix and listen to the old stuff..but we also have the knowledge that its evolved from that. The pop fans who have not kept up with Prince and his last decade of change are th e ones who have not been rescued yet. And just as being out of th e matrix is a struggle and the food is just nutrients and cream of wheat , thats what this new stuff is. Its nutritious but to some not as tasty as egsgs bacon toats etc...but it is still nutritious and probably beter for us etc...and still sometimes a nice juicy steak is not a bad thing as well

If Prince doesnt want people to respond to his music, he should never release anything.

However, if he is going to perform one of his sterilized re-writes of a previously dirty song in front of several thousand people, then those people are gonna talk about it afterwards.

They love it, they think it sucks, whatever. Noone is holding a gun to his head, they're just speaking their minds.

You are wrong. If the concerts and recordings were free then perhaps we wouldn't have the right to judge his music but as soon as Prince charges us money it's fair game.

He might make music for himself, but do you really think that?

I don't, if he did, he'd be sat at home strumming his guitar, twinkling his piano, an unheard musician, enjoying his art.

He wanted to be a star, he wants recognition, he wanted fame, he wants to be controversial - if that's part of your personality, it will influence your art.

So no, I do not think he solely makes music for himself, and nor does anyone else who performs or releases their art to an audience beyond themselves.

Prince decided long ago that he would not dig ditches... he wanted to be a rock star. This is how he would earn his keep. Music would be his Product.

Volkswagon makes a product. People have come to expect a certain standard of quality from Volkswagon. If the fit and finish, or reliability of this product suddenly, or over a long period of time takes a turn for the worse, people will stop buying their product.

Eventually, they'll have to close down the factory.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Like anybody who releases music for a living, he wants people to dig it as much as he does. There is that (smaller) percentage of recording artists who won't compromise to move more units. Fans don't have a say in whether or not he decides to change the lyrics, but that doesn't mean they're not going to give their opinions of it. Ultimately Prince will do what he wants anyway.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

What we fail 2 realize is that we all stopped caring a long
time ago. We just hang round here for the bitchin and all
the drama. If it weren't for that, we'd all be bryan adams

thanks 2 every1 who posted & besides what IstenSzek said which i don't 100% agree with but that's Art 4 u.

i've been reading Possessed - The Rise & Fall Of Prince & it's not 1/2 bad. there's a few parts in the book where it reads about how Prince made a complete "Turn-A-Raound" after Purple Rain & how he made the following albums 4 what we can define as "True Fans" becuz he's never really hit that Comercial Success again since that & Artist or Musicians usually never hit that peak again. i think Madonna & John Travolta r 2 people i can think of that hit it really big & were able 2 come back & xpress themselves with another form of Art & it Commercially does well.

but that's just part of what i was thinking in essence when i started this thread. it's all about the PurpleFunk!

Prince does what he wishes period. Many times IMO, he fails to realize what he could offer what the fans want and needs are and from the image and types of product he gives he sometimes is trying to please a certain audience. Take a listen to the different albums throughout all the time periods and you can see he did change to suit some of the periods in music. Some artists will do what they wish no matter what and others will bend for fans. Up until now fans of Prince have always craved unedited Prince live shit, what Prince will release is heavily edited version of live material (not a complaint - just the way it is! I'll take what I can get you know). Bowie released the live special edition dvd of 'reality' simply because his fans were emailing bowienet and asking him to do so. I mainly would agree to figure that one has a voice is stupid, as long as Prince goes. It's still interesting to watch, still kinda silly at times, I could go on telling about how silly some of the live jams with Larry are, how Prince cancels most projects, the cancelled releases, whats the need??? It's not like the NPGMC cares enough to hear what members are voicing about. Some people just see it as I'm on the roller coaster and I'll take what I can get, I agree with that, I think still its ok to voice what one thinks! Also I like to explore what other artists are offering. Actually the last few releases from P are collecting dust in my collection and I'm currently listening to other music. I'd never give up on him just hesitating to join NPGMC again, seeing this year was rather weak IMO. But Y1 and 2 rocked IMO. So who knows! Still to think we have any say!! No we do not!!
