Wendy's comment on Prince's absence from the Family Jamm Right before Raspberry Beret Wendy made a comment on prince's absence:
"Allright! So this next song, first of all let me just say there's a genius behind everyone of these songs. Now he's not here tonight, but we sure are full of love for everyone of these songs. Now we want you to help sing it and maybe his ears will start burning. OK you all know the lyrics to this one, you'll hear it when we start playing..." Pretty diplomatic don't you think...

I'm not sure why his ears would be "burning" because they are playing one of his songs. The whole event wouldn't even exist without Prince. He did more for that charity that night than any of those individual people. It was basically a bunch of Prince cover bands doing a charity gig...I'm glad he didn't show up..it would have been a mistake, artistically speaking. Don't get me wrong...all those people were great to perform and I would have gone if I lived in LA. But the only reason we care about these people, or even know they exist, is that they performed with Prince and were part of his special live concert "experience". Don't sell them short. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

What were you expecting? I always thought Wendy Melvoin was a lesbian... *********************************************************************************************

It's not disparaging to say that maybe his ears would burn. It is said that when people talk about you, your ears burn or ring. She was saying if we all joined along to sing -- Raspberry Beret was the song -- maybe he'd feel the love and want to join in. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

What were you expecting? I always thought Wendy Melvoin was a lesbian... NOOO Wendy & Lisa are just good friends who happen to sleep in the same bed and occasionally swap spit and pose very lovingly with one another in pictures. My name is Prince and I want your money

Madartista...well done, you interpreted the comments properly unlike some of the more paranoid members here.
It would have been cool for him to show, they were just showing their gratitude. Maybe though he wasnt invited or they did it without consulting him, in which case he isnt expected to turn up. I was half expecting a surprise appearance though!

Well put. It's true he never gets tired of performing this song, we might all be, but he sure isn't.:grin

And although I've heard it live a billion times, I did want The Revolution to perform it so I could hear Lisa... "Raaaspberry Beret..." I didn't wanna hear nothin' but Lisa. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Great catch, Madartista! It's an old superstition: right ear tingles or burns with something good being said about you; left with something bad. Wendy didn't mean it as a jab. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

That's cool that Wendy and Lisa still love the music they worked on with Prince, and that they still see him as a "genius". Wendy's a class act.

It's completely predictable, though. Orgers need something to blame on him constantly. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
