Prince's US/Canada Touring Strength

How much ticket pull does Prince actually have?

I heard that the Hawaii concert was weakly attended. That is distressing as he hasn't played there in a quite a while.

Are his ticket prices too high??

I do believe he can sell 10K-20K venues still in Japan, Australia, UK, Germany, France, and Holland, but unfortunately 3K-6K venues are the best he can hope for in the US and Canada...

That is a shame...but he really doesn't make it any easier on himself, does he??

Anxiety

ONA sold out like crazy in Chicago, and I believe in NYC as well. You better believe he charged top dollar for it, too.

The Australia shows were priced outrageously, and I don't know if they sold out, but from all I heard and read, it wasn't a failure by any means.

Maybe Hawaii just isn't a strong market for the man. Maybe if they had charged less for tix, there would have been a stronger turnout. Who knows. Meanwhile, it would be nice to be excited about a new Prince concert without the knowledge in the back of my mind that I am going to get squeezed dry.

ticket prices and time, may have caused this problem.

The show wasnt promoted and it was last minute announcements...Prince's Oz shows were a success!

Prince will hit and miss some markets being an indie artist and not having a major record out there!

Ppl forget these record labels own the radio stations lol

so PRINCE get that deal papi...or else you'll be out the pool!

Plus, as well as being last minute, it's right in the middle of the holiday season. A lot of people can't afford everything, and have certain priorities at this time of year. If the shows had been announced earlier, this may not have been a problem.

Like other folks are saying, the fact that he announces the shows a few weeks before the concert date, then does little, or no publicity for it doesn't help his cause.

I know he thinks he's saving ££££ by cutting out promoters, but if he gave people a decent amount of notice, he'd make much more.

Bad businessman of the year is...

I'd pay more to see him live than I already have. That isn't the point. The point is that people in North America have extremely bad taste in music. Someone like Britney or 50 cent could sell out any stadium in North America with easy, but what would the show be like? I'd rather pay an arm and a leg to see a show like ONA in a small theatre any day. The sound is better, and even the shittiest seats in a small theatre are killer compared to the rafters of a massive stadium. Prince should keep playing the smaller venues and just do two, three, four night stands in the bigger cities like London, Paris, NY etc. Fuck the stadiums!! I hate stadium shows.

U say:

I do believe he can sell 10K-20K venues still in Japan, Australia, UK, Germany, France, and Holland, but unfortunately 3K-6K venues are the best he can hope for in the US and Canada...

I say your info is wrong. He sells out Arenas here 2. Only because he wanted 2 play 2 smaller croweds on ONA don't mean thats the best he can pull.

One of his greatest reps is 4 his amazing Live shows...been had that.
Lawd, where were U 4 the 2000 & 2001 shows?

Like Cris Rock said..."Is Willie gonna do Kiss? I'll B there" something 2 that effect...but if Willie AKA Prince stops doing all the fan favs...I still think just on rep and his great showmanship and musicianship...It will stay~

I think you bring up a good point. Prince toured the US a pretty good amount during the last 5 years or so. I think he is going to have a tough time selling out dates at high ticket prices. I'm a big fan and used to go to every show here in Atlanta, GA, but I may even resist, or just go to one show if he plays more than one here (which he usually does).

I think he will probably do OK in major cities like NY, Atlanta, LA, Chicago, etc, but I bet he just plays one show in some of those cities when he used to play two or three. But the US economy still isn't great and he hasn't put out any popular albums in quite some time. I'm not really excited about hearing a "hits" show, but then again, I'd rather hear that than NEWS or Rainbow Children, so I ain't complaining.

With NO push Prince can sell 5,000 Seat Places.

BUT that is very good! In Cleveland we have a CSU Convention Center and most acts that can't sell out Gund Arena (20,000), go to CSU (5,000)!

Janet was at Gund last time in 2001 (the place was half full..if that..THEY gave us waaay better seats..they pushed everyone to the front)

American Idol was in CSU (thats brand new and they were already at the 5,000 seats)

98 Degrees (CSU last time)

Prince has played the CSU a bunch of times and it was sold out!!

sooo Prince can play the 5,000 seaters!
