No.

It's almost 30 minutes long, though.

Personally, it's my favorite post-Gold, pre-TRC track.

Maybe. Ask me in 10 minutes, and I'll have another one. It changes all the time.

It's very good, and different to anything else he's done. I love the guitar work on it, mmm, a style which he's used more recently in songs such as The Rainbow Children. You know, that really 'dirty' sound he gets out of the guitar? Try to get your hands on it! Does anybody know whether it has it ever been widely available on CD? I seem to remember the CD always being sold out at 1800NewFunk.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

The CD was only available for a short while through the website, and it has been suggested that very few were sold.

The tape though is still available through NPGMC, isn't it?

Its awesome imo---moody slow tempo --Prince doing his Ravel's Bolero purple style with his paranoid be careful the evolution will be televised dogma lol buidling up to a cresecendo then falling to a refractory period..its experimental for him (kind of) and it is essential listneing ..at least once..you have to hear it

Think Ravels Bolero but Prince style

Anxiety

I love at the beginning when he starts laughing while he's chanting...and I love the drums at the end. The whole thing is trancey and gloomy and funky. Took a while for me to get into, but toss it in the middle of a compo of shorter Prince stuff and you'll fall right into it.

I love it. It kept my fires burning through the shit years.

He was doing this in 1998, whilst releasing New Power Soul!

I see The War as the genesis of TRC.

It's a cool 26-minute funk-jam. Not comparable to the jams on It Ain't Over! though. But it does have some things in common with Rainbow Children (the song).

It's really worth listening to.

It was played through the speakers at the New Power Soul concert in Brussels in 1998. Many people were eagerly listening and discussing it. Very cool song.

Yeah, the tape is. Does anyone know what the sound quality is like and if the track is uninterupted or if it's split over 2 sides of the tape?

it plays the whole song on both sides. sound q. is fine. in fact someone made me a CD-R back in early 1999, back when they had that distribution chain. tape sounds good, CD sounds the same, but it's way rare. get u the tape from retail at npgmusicclub while they got 'em.

Not comparable at all...for starters, The War is worth listening to and won't put you to sleep like It Ain't Over. That's in my opinion EASILY the most boring disc of Prince music ever assembled. Yawn.

I LOVE this track. I loved Crystal Ball 2 - I was kinda hoping that NEWS was gonna be more in this direction - ie, 'out there', but that's another story...

The War will go on and on, but the musical arrangment is very good. He makes reference to James Byrd, who was murdered in Texas after coming home from family party, and being tied to the back of a truck and dragged.
