P ogt skills--he sounds like a world weary loung lizard Burt Bacarach --and this was in 77-78?> No wonder his ass got signed. [This message was edited Wed Dec 10 10:31:35 PST 2003 by rdhull] "Climb in my fur."

I'd love it if he threw sweet songs like this on a new album - just one at a time, as long as they fit the album (not like the Rave debacle). This would have been great on ONA - Do You Wanna Ride? would have fit well on The Truth.
For some reason, I always feel like Leaving For New York could have fit on Emancipation. Perhaps because White Mansion deals with a similar theme.

I've checked this thread 3 times to see if you'd replied yet i was workin on some graphics for my livejournal, i just logged back on here The funny thing is, I've had it for about 10 years now, on some tape, but somehow [as happens with tapes] I mixed up the tracks and always thought that this piece of telephone conversation on the tape was actually "Leaving 4 New York" thus dubbed by a bootlegger. It wasn't until I finally got "The Work" that I decided to listen to it again and heard that it was in fact a song, and not just a song but one of his best and most beautiful outtakes ever. Indeed, it's hard to think he came up with something like this right smack at the beginning of his carreer. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Sappy tune. Lots of cascading piano, and falsetto lyric. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
