rolling stone 500 I'm all cool with every album on that list.I am not exactly sure about the order, though. How can Biggie be before 1999???I love some hip hop and i truly realize that stuff by Tribe Called Quest and some others was nothing short of brilliant. However,I really don't think an album created through sampling can be ahead of something created from pure inspiration.
I dunno.I have a hard time sussing that issue. It takes real creativity and talent to sample well and create articulate and intelligent art. However,I have to give an ultimate edge to artists that don't use samples. That sa-cd sampler they give you is really cool.Sounds great.Pick a copy up very soon. It's pretty interesting. And,hey,Prince has 4 entries and most of the more recognized greats(led zep,the who)have about 5 each. That's not so bad for a guy who the media rarely admits is great. I haven't studied that list but if you're referring to 'Ready To Die', that album already is a hip-hop classic and by the time it's all said an done I think it'll be a classic, period. Before 1999? I'm biased, '1999' is my favorite album of all time.
As for sampling. As you mentioned there are certainly creative ways of sampling and as that goes, Tribe and De La deserve the ultimate props for paving the way. | |
