The NPG Music Club is far away the greatest interactive music site on the internet today or any day. It makes Bowieworld (or whatever the fuck it's called) look like an etch-o-sketch. It is a masterful blend of intriguing graphics and human intimacy, with its message boards and musicolgy room, and chat thingy. Each section has its own vibe; each room its own ambience. You can listen to music, buy things, get bit by a dog (kind of long story...) or just chill in the Knowledge room. There have been chats with famous and semi-famous people that have been well attended and well moderated. (That's probably the closest I will ever get to Sheila E. sad )I would especially like to single out pixius, the moderator with the mostest! here's to you guys! Kudos! toast

Put this way as much as people seem to like to bitch about the NPGMC - and yes in some cases for good reasons - but for those of us that are members we get a hell of a good deal - and that is if it was just for the One Night Alone tour in terms of great seats, soundchecks and after show parties - no one else out there does that for their fans. let alone all the download tracks, adhio shows, box sets and solo piano releases.

If we were to look at the club and comapre it to a lot of customer relationship marketing programmes that big brands like Coke, Peroni, Drambuie, Kodak, Honda etc carry out - then the NPGMC comes off very well indeed. (I mention those brands only as they are all brands that I have helped create CRM activties for.)

Those brands would give their eye teeth to be able to interact and communicate and deal direct with core consumers the way prince can through the club.

As far as I am aware, within my radar anyway, no one else is doing anything half as good for their fans other than Bowie or Pearl Jam. and if there is rather tha bitch about - tell the NPGMC - as if they don't know about it or realise fans might like something - how are they supposed to know?

As with anything there is room for improvement - certainly the navigation of the curent creative - but nothing is perfect and things evolve.

I for one would have loved it if the NPGMC had existed back in the 80's and am thankful for what I have received since it has been running.

So perhaps before bitch so easily, think what would we get if it didn't exist?

Before we had the luxury of the NPGMC, we useta get an album of previously unreleased material every year, we useta get excellent 12" extended singles with brand new b-side songs, we useta get music videos and long-form videos, we useta get interviews every now and again, and there used to be actual shops and clubs in which folks could get their Prince goodies and dance to the music.

People have constantly voiced their concerns and suggestions for improvement to NPGMC.

1800newfunk has been around for nearly a decade. He's had a web site since the mid 90s. And NPGMC is now in its 3rd year.

I'm wondering how much more time people are gonna give them to pull it together and run a responsible business.

There are so many other musicians out there who are taking full advantage of what the web has to offer and distributing their music in a timely and reliable manner. The NPGMC is not a shining example of this.

LOL! Not that Prince will care if he's even nominated, let alone wins...I don't even think he deserves an award for that site. We've gotten less this year than any other year in the past. Feels like I just lit my money for this year on fire.

Hmm, I don't think I'll be voting.

To be honest, I've had my $25 worth, but the Club has just been simply un-interesting this time around. At least last year it was worth the money just to be a part of the controversy and the 'I can't believe they're that bad' moments.

But as for this year, I can't even be bothered expressing any view about it. I never thought that Prince would create something that just turned out to be boring. I'm certainly not complaining - I'm happy to accept that we weren't told what we were going to get and I handed over my money with that in mind and, for the first couple of months, it seemed okay. But the last few months have just been a hive of inactivity. It's disappointing.

But then again, for about $70 I got Rave In2 and NEWS plus the initial fun of exploring the NPGMC house. Far more satisfying than what my $100 got me last time.

Count me in for next year, but for goodness sake, make it more interesting than this one has been.

Or alternatively...

Oh man, it's been a trip 2 B able 2 send P my old CDs that Eye legitimately bought. Eye got 2 beautiful songs - thank U P, we R truly blessed 2 have U'r gift. Eye'd like 2 shout out 2 the PPs on doing such a 1derful job and Eye hope that Devour gets better wink the rabid cunt.
If only all my $25 could B spent so good. Eye can't w8 2 join next year and Eye wish all the complainers would die a horrible death.
Come and visit us in Antarctica soon P. We've been starved of the funk 4 way 2 long.

right on.

And mattosgood, what are you doing? Comparing Prince to brands like Coca Cola,Peroni, Drambuie, Kodak, Honda?

Is Prince a brand now to the allmighty npgmc members who are convinced that a Prince business should need more than 10 years to run itself in a responsible fashion?

What the hell.. according to the "NPG" first it is unethical to treat artists like brands and their music as products and then when the artist does it himself it is all good. Just like bitching over and over about exploitation of artists and crappy music on ridiculous expensive cd's. But what happens when it is Prince that charges way more and releases few new music which is also mediocre stuff? He gets praise.

The reasons individuals select a certain brand over and above another one, are based on complex mix of rational and emotional decisons eg you might choose to buy a Volvo car for the rational safety point of view, while if you were choosing from an emotional point of view you might go for something like a Lotus or Mercedes.

The reasons people are certain fans of certain rock stars works the same way but that is not really why I talk about brands. I referred to brands simply in the context of the NPGMC - which after all is a company and a brand - I did so because of all the flack the club gets about being crap and run really badly - because I wanted to realte it to brands that people percieve being run well and good at marketing - as none of them come close to what the NPGMC does in terms of customer relationship marketing.

Eh?

Two poor demo tracks. A previously unreleased "Studio" video in poor quality.

Thats it.

Everything else was available cheaper elsewhere.

What else was there, that was not available before or in other places? A Draconian ruled forum? A God Squad chat room? Dog T-shirts?

I'd love to know what I'm missing?

The NPGMC has released numerous cds including the Chocolate Invasion, the 7 cd sampler set, the NPG Peace cd, Roadhouse Garden. Fans are treated to many late night jams at Paisley Park. Prince continues to dominate the music scene but explores his options to release more and more music from the overflowing vault! Best part of the club is the constant communications. The NPG web site is loaded with picture and text that provides deep insight into Prince and his music. Fans get to communicate with Prince time to time as the NPG invites them to chat. Prince is focused on the future, many new tunes are released thru the NPGMC web site. The NPGMC keeps its word when they say they will do something they will do it. Without this sort of club fans would not have the opportunity to buy such gear like the symbol shaped guitar. The music club is constantly updates with news and views. Being a member has serious rewards, just lately fans were treated to being able to buy Larry Graham cds for $7.77! The club plans to take the L4OA charity donations and build a hospital where the purple house used to be.
