How long does Prince spend on making a record? Hi
I read a biography of Prince's recently and it seemed he didn't spend very long on recording an album nor took a break from recording. Just wondering if he records non-stop so he can put together an album really quickly, or if he can just get an album together really fast. Cos the quality of his work is not affected by it at all. I meam some spend years getting together an album and its crap!! So how long does Prince take to get an album together from recording to releasing? Thanks in advance Bye Be BTW, newbie here from the UK

It used to be that he spent most of a year recording songs and then picking the tracks that worked best together and released it.
These days it seems like he records whole albums in a few days, then just puts them in the vault and records another one, just releasing 1 or 2 of them a year !! None of them sound like they've had a lot of time spent on them.

I heard he did Batman in 48 hours with no sleep.
Wonder if that's true though...

well, definitely it differs.
News, Chaos & Disorder were recorded within days. Some may even argue that it's easy to tell considering the quality of the recordings and the songs. Also, the basic tracks for the Batman project didn't take much more. Similarly, from what I remember, Lovesexy was recorded really fast. However, with other albums you can hear that he spent more time recording them - the recent example would be "The Rainbow Children" - a lot of work was put into the record and you can hear it. Prince was/has been known for recording almost all the time which means that one can hardly ever say whether he's working currently on a specific album or just another song. Apart from it, Prince happens to configure albums consisting of older material (most apparent example would be Graffiti Bridge). ______________

This is why someone should put out a book about his studio sessions. A while back, someone suggested that Borisfishpaw, Per Nilsen, DavidEye and a few others get together and write one! I'd be first in line to buy it.

Is one in the works? Isn't it "Turn It Up" the book you're talking about? ______________
