A John Oates solo album exists? This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I like the way The Onion tells the reader what is so terrible about each cd while at the same time supplies a link to Buy It.

I read it, and I found this quote the most compelling:
Remember when The Artist's "emancipation" from his record label meant fans would finally have the chance to crack open his mythical vault—which many assumed would contain 15 or 20 long-suppressed equivalents of Sign O' The Times or The Black Album? Instead, in 2003, they have the chance to almost unanimously ignore N.E.W.S., which contains four dull, 14-minute jazz-funk instrumental odysseys: "North," "East," "West," and "South." N.E.W.S., get it? The result is uncompromising, to be sure, but rarely has a once-great musician sounded so uncompromising and so inessential at the same time. Regardless of whether the org community agrees, this quote sums up the general perception of Prince among the more informed elements of the music audience (i.e., people who know enough about Prince's work and career to be conversant but don't really have a big interest in his music).. While both are of questionable credibility, the Onion and the Music Academy for the Grammies must have completely different opinons of NEWS. Leave it to the hate mongers to dig up some obsecure negativity that no one would even see unless they post it in here.

How could you...? How could you, put anything Prince writes, in the same category with Macho Man Randy Savages, poor attempt at a music career?
NEWS rubbish??? Listening to the album, I can't understand how anyone would think that. Even non-Prince fans I know, are diggin' the album very much so. Well...What does the funky-onion have to say about the Grammy nomination. In yo face! Blue [This message was edited Tue Dec 9 21:10:08 PST 2003 by TheBluePrince] Blue

In terms of the "general public" Prince has lost it.
As good "technically" as NEWS maybe, it aint going to get him an audience. It's dull. Period. Sorry to tell you all. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

They make a good point there...But to the general public who likes "Prince music", NEWS is pretty unessential. 99 out of 100 casual Prince fans would not like it. I'm a big Prince fan and I don't like it. I don't fault him for doing it, but it just doesn't appeal to me. They were hard on Prince, but I think they miss the past like we all do. But time moves on and Prince is doing what he wants to, which is what he should, whether the Onion or the rest of us like it or not.

Interesting that they are reminding the reader of the vault promise. Prince is losing credibility. You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Now, he's been reduced to a puzzling obscurity, as he self-releases a string of increasingly indulgent vanity projects to a tiny circle of loyalists.

I read the Onion review...and I must agree
Owning N.E.W.S has neither improved my life or my perspective on Prince's current direction Its not a bad record...but there really isn't much point to it either

The "Macho Man" album is the Album Of The Year!!!
Have you heard any of those songs? They are classic! This is the funniest album I have ever heard in my life. I barely listen because I am laughing so hard. And no, I didn't buy it. You can download most of the songs on any Peer to Peer network. Great stuff! "It's that Coqui 900, can I have me a sip"

The Onion is pretty fucking far from obscure. Far less so than, say, NEWS!!! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

The Black Album?
ill be abit anal here and say that the black album generally was viewed as a disappointment by critics, and fans. so why they list that as his top album. i suppose cos its a "vault" album but still! its funny NEWS now has a grammy nomination, how many other albums on the list have one? kinda makes it semi-essential don't it... but lets not forget the onion is a pisstake of sorts, and they did name prince officially "cool" a few months back!
