how many of you on this site know more than one black person? its lighting, have any of you even seen prince in concert? he is very light-skinned. but obviously african american. he isn't mulatto (fyi - careful, some folks frown on that because it can be considered a derogatory term). his family is extremely mixed however. | |

There is no black and white. Nobody is either of those as they aren't colors. As for his heritage, he's obviously mixed with several things. He's somewhere between Wesley Snipes and Brad Pitt or African and European. In that sense we can all claim him if you're looking for some kind of validation.
"Light-skinned black" has to be one of the most stupid terms ever concocted. It makes no sense-- even if black were a skin color. Just for the record-- for those who would dispute that-- I am somewhat of an authority being that I am Prince's color(s) depending on the amount of sun I get or don't get. My father is of primarily African and Native American descent and my mother primarily European (who really knows what else they have) and I don't just disregard any of these heritages. Besides, sooner or later everybody will be mixed if we don't kill eachother first. |

on all of the threads which have been created in the past about this very subject, a couple things are always prevalent:
1) some people act as if there's no such thing as skin tone variances in people of color. if they're lighter-/darker-skinned or have certain physical features that ain't "typical" of their race, then "they must be mixed with something else and not all the way (fill in whatever race here)!" which is complete and total boolshit. 2) some people aren't too knowledgeable about one's lineage/background and may need to do a bit of homework before comin to their conclusions. to summarize: people need to start doin more of the former and a helluva lot less of the latter. thread closed.  | |
