The Good Life - remixes

OK, can anyone help me here?

I went by a Prince online discography and bought NPG "The Good Life" on 12". Now on the discography, it only listed one vinyl version of this, a 12" featuring:-

1/ The Good Life (Big City Remix)
2/ The Good Life (album version)
3/ The Good Life (Bullets Go Bang remix)
4/ Free The Music
5/ Get Wild (In The House)
6/ Get Wild (Club Mix)

OK? Well, I got the 12" and it's a 2-track promo with no catalogue number and it says "DJ only". The track listing is:-

1/ The Platinum People mix
2/ The Dancing Divas mix

Is either of these the Big City remix?
Is this a rariety?
Is it worth more than the 99p I paid?

OK. Now what was that about when the remix charted in the UK, a couple of years after release.

I remember they reissued the CD single, it did relatively well, and they played The Good Life mix of radio, I was totally trippin' because Prince was on the radio, yet no-one knew it was Prince! cool

The following versions have all been officially released:

The Good Life (Album version)
The Good Life (Big City Remix)
The Good Life (Bullets Go Bang Remix)
The Good Life (Dancing Divaz Mix)
The Good Life (Platinum People Edit)
The Good Life (Platinum People Mix)

Neither of the tracks is the Bullets Go Bang Remix

Neither of these tracks is exclusive to a promo release.

Is the item rare? It's relatively rare because it's a DJ only vinyl promo - it wasn't pressed in massive quantities. It's not especially rare in that it doesn't have exclusive material on it, and it wasn't suddenly withdrawn after only 10 had been pressed.

Is it worth more than 99p?

Its monetary value would depend largely upon the quality of the packaging and vinyl. Is it a mint condition item? Has it been played? Scuffed? Scratched? Is it warped beyond recognition? The content itself shouldn't add anything significantl to its value. There isn't a particularly interesting history to the release which gives it extra significance in the collectors' market.

All in all, though, if it's in decent condition, 99p (even for two versions of 'The Good Life') on promo vinyl is a fair buy. Don't expect to make a killing when The Antiques Roadshow come to town though.

[The definitive (smarty pants) answer is that it's only worth 99p because that's what you paid for it, and it's only worth more if someone pays you more for it - but you know that.]

Platinum People and Dancing divas are both on the maxi CD that I have. But those two alone on a white label? Who knows?

Well, cheers folks 4 your replies. It's in mint condition & I'm rather chuffed with it. It's just occured to me to check Madhouse and, puzzlingly, they're offering this record in VG condition for £15 or M condition for £19.99

Must be worth a fiver then?

the 2 on the promo you've got were done by a remix DJ (Sasha, i think).

anyway, i think they were the popular ones in the UK. but the maxi in the US didn't even include them.

Good Life (Big City) is really the only one worth having, as it's basically a completely different (and much better song) than the Good Life. plus, it's sung entirely by Prince as himself, and not disguised as Tora Tora or him doing co-lead vocals with Sonny
